I can clearly see how the purchasing the shield and re-selling it back was a clear exploit and those that did should be punished. But what you are describing is just how many people play the game. Myself, like a lot of others always take advantage of boosts to get gear to sell/scrap. I don't think its fair to punish those that did the usual thing of selling the gear they farmed, just because they discovered this vendor was paying more for it, especially, without any announcements by Trion that it was broke in that manner. I wasn't playing this weekend so I did not have access to the EL vendor.

Farming is one thing and is a fine method for people to play by. The prices the EL vendor was offering were 3 to 5 times greater than normal vendor prices. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that's not normal or right. To take advantage of that for a handful of items or one vendor appearance, I personally wouldn't consider abusing it. To do that for repeated appearances is abuse.

This. ^ Selling items earned legitimately to any vender, regardless of what it'd pay for the items, would be an exploit in itself if this wasn't true.

The difference is that the vendor was not advertised to have better buy back rates than any other vendor in the game. That should have raised an automatic red flag, and at the very least players should have reported this and waited for official feedback to see if what was happening was intended or an exploit.

Quite frankly, if you get banned in a game, it is because you took advantage of a clear exploit that common sense would have told you was an exploit. People are not getting punished/banned because they sold a handful of items to the vendor. People are getting punished/banned because they saw how much the vendor was paying then specifically set out to get as much stuff as possible (several dozen handfuls worth, so to speak) to sell to that specific vendor to make a boat load of cash.

In my 30+ years of gaming I have never been banned nor punished in a game for taking advantage of an exploit. Why? Because I err on the side of caution and wait for official word on whether something is intended or an exploit.

If you started with 500,000 but ended with 1,500,000 you would be far into the red.

Scenario:

Player has 500,000 scrip
Player spends 500,000 scrip to purchase 100 shields at EL vendor. (shields = 5000ea)
Player sells 100 shields back to vendor and makes 600,000 scrip.
Player now has 600,000 scrip

note:Player should have a total of 100,000 scrip at end of transaction.

Player has 600,000 scrip
Player spends 500,000 scrip to purchase 100 shields at EL vendor. (shields = 5000ea)
Player sells 100 shields back to vendor and makes 600,000 scrip.
Player now has 700,000 scrip

note:Player should have a total of -400,000 scrip at end of transaction.

Repeat this a few more times and this player is millions of scrip in the red.

Got it mate. Still, it's working on a system that more money than was received as profit, should be taken away. So why are the rewards for doing the other exploits not set to zero, or taken away? Apparently the other exploits are fine to exploit and receive rewards from. But this one gets super big attention, because.. Um.. It helps the in-game economy. That's pretty much the issue. The influx of scrip, helped the in-game economy, and people don't like that, so now it's being reversed.

The stolen money thing is true, and I see how that would be bad in the real world. But this IS a game. And one that was seriously lacking in economy before the exploit. I personally think there should have been a stimulus package of scrip long before this. Maybe the PS3 economy could've been saved then. :c

And I understand what your'e saying about people losing more scrip than what they got as profit. I just think that it's going to hurt the economy even more. I don't think it could get much worse than 2-3 people a day looking to buy/trade, but I could be wrong. I very much so hope that I'm right that it can't get much worse.

Actually it can - by having an infusion of scrip that is not earned or made via stimulus - there are tons of articles that take on this subject about in-game economies, which are distinctly different from a Real World economy, but that's really outside of the scope of what we are talking about.

In terms of the other exploits in the game, who is to say? This could be the first step in terms of bannings and punishments. Trion has to start somewhere, and this one may have been big enough to begin to get the point across.

I've never been banned for an exploit either. I've been banned twice for telling off aholes, but not for anything else. And the way I see it, if the economy was good in the first place, and people were actually buying and trading, then no one would've had to use the vender to get rid of their stuff, because someone else would have had the scrip to pay for it.

Actually, IMHO, I think this may be the best damn thing for the in-game economy! It may help ppl realize that their garbage weapons are just that, garbage. Maybe we'll see an influx of reasonable prices rather than infectors for a million scrip.
