I disagree. If the mechanics are in place to make a profit, you should do so. The playerbase should not be QC for Trion. Trion is negligent and blaming your player-base for your own errors is insanity.

The game is largey unplayable for many players. To place blame on them for subsequent failure is ridiculous.

Sorry, but my 30+ years of gaming (with about 15+ years of researching and playing MMOs) says otherwise. You see, experience does mean something when it gives you the power to see these very same scenarios repeated over and over again, and the excuses of those found guilty never change. This is how MMOs work, and this his how they punish offenders (though again, this is pretty much a slap on the wrist). Heck, I am just waiting for a thread to pop up now by someone who got the 24 hour time out blaming their little brother for exploiting the glitch on their account - it's been the only one missing up to this point.

In some games they would have been. Heck, I have seen games perma-ban people for using the "F" word in general chat. What Trion did here is pretty mild. I think we are simply seeing a case of the console kiddies get their hands slapped and are completely shocked by it. 15+ years of MMO experience would have taught them otherwise.

Let me repeat from my long post on page 8:
MMOs do this all the time, in fact in some instances, MMOs have done server roll backs because the exploiting of a glitch was so severe. I am just glad that Trion didn't need to do that - server rollbacks also punish the innocent.

It never destroyed DCUO, and the bans handed out over there for money glitching were harsher than the ones handed out here.

Ok, resuming and concluding, some people used the glitch intentionally and some did it unintentionally.

It seems to me that we have people that never cheated playing any kind of game.

I selled items and buyed items at the EL vendors. Yes, i saw an oportunity to sell old items and new items and make a few scrip.
So what ? I did nothing wrong, paid the items at the value that was anounced and sold at the value that he was buying.
Because it was a special event, i thought that TRION was rewarding us some how, hence the rarity of they appearing in game.
I didn`t play the game the game for almost 2 months and i only check the game once in a while to see if there are some improvements and to me, this was an improvement.
Because i`m a 43 years old male and i work for a living, most of the times i work more then 10, 11, 12 hours a NIGHT, because i have responsabilities, please forgive me all the self righteous men and women in this forum if i don`t have the time to see the live streams of TRION.

Everybody cheats, either they admit it or not.

And i don`t have a friking clue if anything happened to my char in these days after the ExraLife event because, like i said before i only check the game time to time, so i don`t know and i DON`T really care.
I play this game because it`s fun, when it stops being fun i wont even say goodbye, i`ll just go play something else that makes me slightly happy.

Some people just whine and whine even they know that they cheated, and that`s lame, but some are just complaining because they are right.

To those that say that not all the people cheats, i`ll just state an old internet fact : EVERY BODY LIES.

People who have been suspended were talking about MILLIONS of scrip. That sounds like abusing an EXPLOIT.
People who bought and sold few times, apparently haven't been touched (or so I gather from what I read).

Well, I guess I could come up with some analogy that essentially equates to "just because Defiance doesn't have an economy doesn't make the exploitation of glitches right," but we can debate on the merits of the economy. Clearly we have player trades going on and such, so there is a modicum of economy in the game.

That being said, obviously more could have been done to have a truly robust and traditional MMO economy in game. I kind of see why the initial dev team didn't, though, based on the original design thesis of the game. I do think, though, at this point in time, and taking in the changes that Trick would like to make, I think we could really benefit from the addition of those MMO tropes like an auction house.

However, as I said, regardless of the current state of the economy, exploits like this need to be dealt with quickly and firmly. At this point, I have no problem with how Trion handled the issue. It's time for everyone to grow up, learn from their mistakes (including Trion), and move on.
