Fog of War and/or Sight Range issue

Why is it that I can stand on a hill, look across a grassy field and a broken road, into a crumbled building through a window and see the poster on the wall clearly but I can't see the Hellbugs moving around in the field or the Mutant Marksman inside the building standing directly in front of the poster looking out the same window?

I'm just saying it doesn't make any sense especially when you use a scope on a sniper rifle and the "zoom" barely makes a difference, it definitely should extend your sight range into the "Fog of War" or whatever Defiance calls it.

If I am able to view the enviroment clearly, shouldn't I be able to see the NPCs up to that range just as clearly also, or is this a crazy idea?

So basically, you want the rendering distance increased. I'm all for this. Let's make it happen people.

Real men snipe from handgun range.

Because it's the furthest the scope can zoom.

Correction; Dead men snipe from handgun range. :P
Jk. Police snipers don't often take shots more than 100 meters unless in special circumstances, while military snipers try to stick to 400+ meters. Reason for this is because assault rifle shots tend to lose a great deal of their power when they hit 200 meters. I'm not saying increase the rendering distance to 400 meters (imagine the laaag!), but more than 100 would be nice. Maybe cap it at 200 meters, or at least increase to 150. Maybe then people would realize that the purpose of a sniper is LONG range shots.

Yes I would very much like to have the rendering distance increased to more than what it is now, possibly have the scope's magnification distance increased to the max. I don't think that whatever objects that can fit in the scope's sight picture is going to cause uber lag maybe even have 2 magnification levels for mod scoped rifles like the sniper rifles did in Halo.

I mean whats the point of reconning an area if it looks empty but is filled with bad guys? To kill immersion?

Also whats the point of using cloak to kill enemies that are grouped if the rest of the enemies, and any other enemies in the immediate area, know exactly where you are?

There are 5 Raiders milling around the side of a truck and another by himself on the other side. I cloak-snipe the lone Raider and get no reaction from the group thats seriously like a few meters away from him but I cloak-snipe a Blaster from a catwalk and the entire North Point Mine starts heading in my direction even though I'm still cloaked. None of the Raiders heard the shots, they don't take cover or scatter in different directions to look for me, they see one of their bros go down and start charging at my cloaked body thats hiding behind a rock.

    WTF?

It's a matter of computing power.

Right now, the server just calculates everything you can see beyond XX distance as a static display with no need to think about it a second time until you get closer to it. And it doesn't need to populate it with dynamic NPCs until you get within a really close distance (the magic number 80 yards).

When you double the sight distance to live stuff in the world, the server suddenly has the equivalent of 4 times more information to process every slice of a second, for every 'toon that's looking out passed their nose.

Thats a LOT of computer cycles the server has to invest.

You think lag is bad now at an A-Fall with BMGs? Just wait til the server has 4 times the load just to display stuff you're not even looking at - for everyone in the world.

The cloak/snipe reaction you're getting has nothing to do with sight distance. It's the reaction the server is programed to give for certain input, and you triggered the reaction the devs wanted you to get.
    These are just my opinions.
    I have lots of opinions.
Some of them, on occasion, people have agreed with.
I do not trust those people.

    NA/pc.
    2013:
Mid E-5XXX main, but I played 26+ 'toons from E400 to E5500. (Dormant)
    2050: Lvl 499X main

I do as well wish you could see further, but like Crasher said, it would just be so much more laggier than it already is (at least for consoles?).

    Uh...thats lame.

I just want to shoot bad guys in the face from very far away and put the fear of whatever alien god they worship into all those who witness, is that too much to ask for?

Thanks for the information and input guys, good hunting.
