Orange drop rates were always an issue since day one. I just started playing again after a while away, and it was easy to remember why I left. Every day its the same thing - do arkfalls, sieges, etc for a few hours to get enough keycodes and salvage for a few boxes, open the boxes, get all blue and green quicksell junk, and then realize you wasted all that time for nothing.

Not saying I expect an orange everytime, but they are just stupidly rare for most players. And as the game loses players, you would think Trion might do something about this to stir up interest. I guess not.

Aha thats where you are wrong, weapon rarity doesn't matter asmuch in this game compared to others, this is more of a fun game where you get minimal stat boosts for going that one higher tier, you shouldn't take it as farming but as doing something in the game, instead of sitting around talking on other mmo's because you're waiting for stupid dungeon cooldowns or done all your dailies for the day, this game makes you feel involved if you put in the effort and don't make excuses for putting in the effort.

any advice for someone wishing to get some keys?

Since DLC 2 there is a much faster way to get keys. HMU on XBL and I'll give you the skinny on the method as well as the numbers to prove it. It does rely on you running bonuses, so it's not entirely free. But it's netting me some mad ark salvage in a short amount of time, and I really could only hope for a loot bonus weekend, you could easily double the salvage with it...

The main problem with the tier 4 boxes is the chance to get a blue level weapon, which is 60%+

You actually have a better chance pulling a purple weapon from a tier 3, than a tier 4. the % chance literally doubles between the two.

(EDIT thought you were talking about orange rates, my bad)

I though that was only applied before they boosted the orange chance on T4 boxs, they admitted them selves that you were more likely to get an orange in a t3 box than a t4, so now if you are orange hunting it might still be better to go for T4s.

anyway i might switch to doing T3s again they cost a lot less salvage so i should be able to get more of them and perhaps get a really nice purple or orange

The difference between OJ drop rates of the two boxes is that supposedly, a tier 3 has a 1-3% chance of an Orange, and a tier 4 has a 5% chance.

Tier 4 being almost 3x the keycodes makes it less desirable to people who pay attention.
