Until you see the game world it's hard to really explain the size - but I can safely say that it's not small and there's a reason you get modes of transportation to get around the world.

Arf!!! I'm an idiot...I never use fast travel,if i piay an open-world game with a big map,i want to take my time, look around, its a real pleasure to do that...even in GTA IV sometime i just walk in the street....
On one of the making of,a developer said about the map there will be sea side, country side & mountains. So i guess it will be bigger that just S.F. I hope to have a big huge map to walk or drive across

to be far grand theft auto has modes of transportation too.. and while its not small its not nowhere near as large as an MMO's world. so Mode of transportation may mean its big... but it doesnt mean its big ENOUGH.

For example I can drive down every street and alley in grand theft auto in about 2 hours.. whereas in lets say final fantasy XI (mmorpg) It would take at least 8-12 hours to Chocobo (the games mounts) through EVERY area available in the game.. and thats not even counting the areas a chocobo cant enter (dungeons and towns)

Wow also has had 7 years, and didn't have all areas open at launch. Granted it was still a big map, but from what i've seen the map is still pretty decent for a LAUNCH. Give it time and i'm sure we will have more area to explore and/or pillage.

Well if the game was advertised as taking place is "the US" as opposed to "san Francisco" then Id be under the impression that while san Francisco is the only area from the start but eventually (like all mmos do) it will expand off into other parts of the US.. But since the game specifically takes place in san Francisco I see no indication that we might get to hang out in lets say "los angeles" at this point.. not saying we WONT but theres nothing that gives that impression yet

lol i never fast travel on my first time through an area.. i like to explore and find everything.. but once thats done having men run through the same place for 20 mins just to get from point a to point b.. and have to run through that place an additional 200 times gets old real fast
