So you haven't actually played since the official release of the game... including now?

well... after TSW i have been searching for an MMO that could hold my attention. to be honest i still am...
but when i log into steam and take a look at my list, i still choose Defiance for my quick fix of gaming entertainment.
ive tried rift, neverwinter and many others and although totally different, they have failed to grab me at all.
after WoW i am perhaps less inclined to go the fantasy genre and Defiance came along at the perfect time for me personally.

i remember the mass sackings soon after release of this game, pretty ominous news though i didnt delve too deep into the politics at the time but on the whole i get the feeling that whoever is steering the defiance ship, looked as far into the future as getting it off the ground and live, but no further than that. we get the same feeling about the TV show i think. its a large multimedia undertaking but it would appear its being made up as it goes. as far as content i dont think the game will be entitled to lead the show (although it might be a better story) but they still feel the need to tie-ins. perhaps we are being hand fed until the next season comes out on tv and we know where the hell the story is going... a bit of a long haul each year playing by "seasons".
the game devs would do much better to implement their own ideas. (or more so OUR ideas)
something tells me (just quietly) the game might live slightly longer than the show in the downward spiral.


i have friends from past games that are reluctant to give Defiance a try because of what they have heard.
sure even the fans are let down, but i dont think we will give up totally until trion does.

I was reviewing some posts on Reddit. There's a lot of disappointed fans, here and there; however, there's a lot of people with hope. One person stated it feels like the game is NOW at the point it should have been at release.

I figure that if Trion can last the next year, it will start to open up and expand the way you've been hoping. But I don't think it will be tomorrow. For myself, it's a wonderful little shooter and that's all I hope from it for now. I enjoy picking it up and running a siege or arkfall to burn some time or aggression But I really don't expect it to become the game you want... yet. I think this next year it will either crash or make a step towards what you've hoped for.

I agree with you. The DLC 2 content added a bit more to the equation with Arkbreaks, however, more actual playing space (land area) needs to be added for additional exploration. Also, another enemy arch-type would help too.

I think so much hate exists because people (including myself) actually like the game and want it to succeed. However, they are deeply disappointed and irritated at:

The lack of content
The lack of attention by Trion (think step-child to Rift),
Not fixing outstanding existing bugs
Introducing new bugs
Changing things that didn't need to be changed (grenades, Surge Bolters..etc.)
etc, etc, etc.

I like this game a lot and want it to succeed, otherwise I wouldn't of invested so much time in it. If Trion can fix the above things, Defiance has no where to go but up.

I'm doing the trial now, but I have already tripped over several bugs I reported back in the old alpha, so I am highly pessimistic the game has improved much. So far the only bug I have seen fixed is the no sold cover bug. But that doesn't mean I wont run in to it before I'm done with the trial.
So far, as it stands, it still isn't in good enough shape for me to pay for it.

I mean the game is fun to play, I like a good scfi shooter just to take a brake from the sword and sorcery FRPGs. Thing is the quality I have seen so far{and during the alpha} is what I would expect from a garage developer using the Unity game engine. Oh, wait, the unity game engine works with PC game pads, I have never gotten a PC game pad to work with this worth a crap.

If TRION only had some way of knowing this... like... if there was some way for us to try to tell them this stuff so that they could see/hear and find out, then so many of us wouldn't get so frustrated saying the same stuff over and over.

If such a place existed, I'm sure many players would gather and say the heart felt speech (similar to mine and many others in other threads)
And we would have Hope! Hope that things might get better...

I could of sworn that was the purpose of an official forum? I get the feeling sometimes that Trion wants Defiance to fail and/or is slowly releasing content/making unpopular decisions to infuriate the player base. I just don't get what the motivation would be to do so.
