I generally don't like to sound snide, but that was worth the read just to watch you dig yourself a deeper hole with every paragraph. As others have pointed out, you clearly don't understand the correct use of contractions and your misuse of words (except not accept) really makes your claim to being a corporate lawyer dubious at best. Language is incredibly important in the field of law and the ability to accurately communicate thoughts, opinions and facts via the written word is something that lawyers live and die by. I won't question your claim to entrepreneurship since anybody can start a business but don't think that throwing around terms like Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 has anyone fooled.

Loosely translated, your entire conspiracy theory of sabotage boils down to this: "I spent a lot of time trying to get this one kind of grenade mod only to have the nature of grenades turned into consumables which devalues my experience and makes me, as a self-proclaimed professional, realize how foolish it was to spend as much time as I did trying to get that one item. Wah."

I'm sorry you feel cheated, but it's a game man. Try to maintain a little perspective.

Or sell to the Chinese, or perhaps that's what they're planning anyways; only time will tell.

I will just keep re-posting this as soon as it is deleted so that the ugliness about Trion may be known to all. If my account is removed, I will just create another one and continue posting this as this is a matter of dire importance concerning the Future of Defiance and Trion as a whole. Don't underestimate my fervor and resolve over this entire issue which needs to be addressed A.S.A.P. rather than continuously swept under the rug. I will not be censored or silenced until this issue is addressed.

    Original Post:
I can't be any clearer than this. Trion totally f***ed this game. Defiance was one of the very few games I actually play on a regular basis anymore. Now seeing as how they've decided to change a whole bunch of stuff that did not need to change rather than introduce any new quality to the game - only adding more problems rather than fixing old ones - I just don't have it in me to keep playing this game anymore.

After spending six months of my valuable time grinding to FINALLY get an epic Fragsurge Grenade to drop, now they go and make them expendable? Why have such a s***ty drop rate on them in the first place then? This game is totally dead to me. I honestly hate everything about these new changes, I just want the old game back, but seeing as how Trion blatantly doesn't give a f*** about their end user at all, I doubt very much this will be addressed. Way to go Trion, your greed machine has ruined another perfectly good game. It was fun while it lasted. Now I'll have to keep looking for something else to play; it definitely won't be a Trion game that much I'm sure of.

Furthermore, I'm recommending to all my friends they boycott Trion from here on out because they're obviously only in this market to make money. They don't care about adding quality for their users at all. As long as they trick you into buying the product in the first place with all their - particularly over embellished - marketing hype, they're evidently completely satisfied regardless of whether or not you keep playing it. I've seen too many game companies take this route and quite frankly I'm very sick of it and a little saddened by it at the same time. Like a seasoned scam artist they just take your money and run, never looking back or even caring who they robbed with their filthy little scam.

This is exactly why I had to quit playing Firefall and supporting Red 5 studios as well. These companies just can't leave well enough alone, and instead of adding any real value to the game they just keep muckering around with the little s*** trying to milk every last penny they can out of the end user. They keep changing the game play or adding a few new weapons here and there only slightly different from the old ones (requires less man hours this way to develop therefore minimizing cost while maximizing profit) so you have no choice but to start all over again and learn a completely new system so as to keep the oblivious suckered into the game. Well we're onto your dirty little tricks Trion and this is the last straw. You have deeply insulted our intelligence on a profound level and now I feel a little dirtier and a lot more shameful for ever supporting this company in the first place.

As an entrepreneur I can say with confidence that this is a very poor business model which is in no way sustainable in any sense of the term. It might be fine for the younger generation of gamers who don't know any better and who don't have to work two jobs so they can afford to spend all day learning a new game model but for the older veteran gamers this is just more hassle than it's really worth. There's plenty of other games out there that you don't have to worry about them changing everything all the time just to keep milking pennies out of the game from those who don't know any better. This is exactly why I quit playing Rift with it's haphazard, too little too late, grind-happy little changes all the time like the Storm Legion Fail where you just get to fork over more money to do the same exact thing over, and over, and over again all the while expecting more and different results. Is this not the very definition of insanity people? Does this not prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Trion has indeed gone off the deep end with greed? The perfect and fitting Scrooge just in time for this years Christmas.

I would just like to tell you Trion, that if you're not going to fix this, then don't even bother with making a second season of the Defiance game or even the corresponding show on Syfy. You might as well just file for Chapter Eleven now so you can salvage what assets you have left and save yourself the headache of having to file for Chapter Seven later on (Unless that's what you want? Hmm... I wonder). Just some friendly Pro Bono advice.

Just leave well enough alone and add true value to the game like new instances, new regions to explore, and many, many hours and days worth of missions, not ten minutes that you have to fork over an arm and a leg for. It just makes no sense at all. Don't be so scared to pay your developers what they're worth so they can invest some real time in adding quality content to the game rather than just feeding us the same old bulls*** only wrapped in a new shiny package while laying off developers. This is the opposite of how to run a sustainable and successful game development company. Invest in your developers and in adding REAL quality CONTENT to the game and you will thank me later, I promise.

Sadly, the only conclusion I can draw from this is that Trion is intentionally hurting the entire game industry right now by lowering the bar for everyone. I honestly thought things would get better when they hired Scott Hartsman back, it's apparent now it was only to bring him back as a corporate sabatuer to aid in destroying consumer confidence in this industry thereby ensuring lower wages for desperate, recently graduated game programmers; contributing to their bottom line profit margin. This extremely harmful business practice is, however unfortunately, in widespread usage today by many unscrupulous corporations who only care about profit.

Rest assured, when they start slashing benefits (assuming they have not done so already) and start bringing in less experienced developers at half your wage, this is because some corporation has been tasked with actively working to push the market in the wrong direction in order to reap the benefits to their bottom line. This is usually followed by filling Chapter Eleven while the Executives pocket millions of dollars funneled to overseas accounts in order to drain the company. By the time the SEC catches on, the company will have already gone into Chapter Seven and changed hands so nobody is any the wiser; accept for us, your end-users who aren't nearly as dumb as you obviously think we are. Classic corporate sabotage at it's finest. Well we're watching you Trion, wondering which move you will make next. Will it be Chapter Eleven then? It should prove interesting to see nonetheless.

The rich only continue to get richer, meanwhile those unfortunate developers now pushed out of their jobs are finding they must either accept jobs at half their previous wage or be misplaced in their occupation completely; seeking another line of work entirely so they don't end up on the streets as Federal Unemployment Benefits Extensions are terminated by congress at the end of the year. This is the scenario currently playing out in many, many development companies. It's a deadly trend - these companies are merely chasing their own tails - sooner or later they will bite it and find out just how much that hurts.

This is equally true for any and all recessions which have ever occurred throughout the history of mankind -- they have ALL been carefully crafted and calculatedly by corporations and central banks for the benefit of the few at the expense of the many. Nothing happens by accident, it's simply economic warfare against an unsuspecting populace. Unfortunately, I find myself faced with this depressing and unrelenting truth every day in my line of work, which is why I turn to games like Defiance as a path to escaping the harsh realities of this world. It would seem, however, even this is jeopardized by corporate greed.

    How to fix this:
Send out a precision targeted survey to all of your users to find out what they liked and did not like about this game update. Fix everything they don't like, and refund everyone's money who you swindled into buying this DLC. Then make the DLC into the free update it should have been in the first place. This just *might* restore *some* market confidence in Trion. Although, at this point most end user's confidence has been so badly scarred I think it could be just too late anyways. Once you loose our trust it is not so easily regained. As many, many others have stated here, we were all still waiting to get our money's worth out of the first season pass as it was so negligible in delivering it's original promise that we were rightfully expecting there to be much more content released until now.

What's more, you have crushed our hopes, and now seem to already expect us to fork over more of our hard earned money even though you didn't do anything at all to earn it in the first place. For Season One you gave us what, some outfits for running dungeons? Some outfits for completing impossible achievements nobody will ever complete? A car you could just buy anyways? I ask you, where is the value in this? Were there any new instances? New missions? New territories? F*** no. I fail to see how anyone got their money's worth in purchasing the First Season Pass. This does not exactly inspire one to just run right out and continue spending more money on DLC for this game, let me tell you.

    P.S.
Anyone else looking forward to Elder Scrolls Online being released April 4, 2014? I sure know I am. Especially after Trion has clearly and recklessly failed us in such disparaging ways on so many different fundamental and unprecedented levels. I should also like to add that these are only my personal thoughts and opinions and as such can in no way be construed as libel and slander. Before Trion get's sue happy let's just get that out of the way right now. My first job is as a corporate lawyer, second as running a private not-for-profit online rights advocacy and digital privacy foundation; yet I took time out of my extremely busy and hectic schedule to write this because I cared deeply for this game as it once had some true potential. That being said, I know my rights as a consumer and will not be swayed so don't waste your time or breath on me. Yeah that First Amendment's a b**** ain't it? Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, it'll do you a whole lot better than whatever the f*** you guys have been smoking lately.

Now I know what you're thinking, "Dude! This guy's a corporate lawyer f*** him he works for the dark side too." While that might be true, let me just close with a short lyric from one of my favorite bands of all time:

... Commence Truly Epic Drumming; R.I.P. Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan ...
"This ride that takes me through life
Leads me into darkness but emerges into light
No one can ever slow me down
    I'll stay unbound"

Think about this for a moment: No matter how we choose to live our lives - unless you're Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin - nobody escapes this world alive. We can only hope to do some good while we're here. We can only hope Trion decides to take that first shaky step towards doing good. It might be a small step, but a giant leap for mankind. It can be a scary, uncertain step, but it's never too late to do some good. It's what the world needs right now more than anything.

Trion needs to take some time to go sit in the corner right now for a good long while and think about what they've done here and pontificate whether this is really the way they wish to conduct their business. Trion needs to sincerely consider if this is the final example they wish to set for all other game development companies to follow in. Once that precedence is set, it tends to snowball out of control; once you tug on that ball of yarn there's no going back. It's time for Trion to get into that good 'ol Christmas Spirit of Giving and stop being a bunch of Bah Humbugs.
wow, I agree with 2 things you said: the world could use some good & lawyers are dou***bags (is this a thread or a brief?); well written for a child, poorly written for a lawyer

So, basically we have a pvp rage? 'Cause near as I can figure (and I admit I don't pvp) oj grenades are only really useful in pvp.

Seems I recall some other fella whining about his "high min damage" oj grenade being taken for that reason.

That is, your tactic is: Cloak, toss a grenade which usually kills or mostly kills them and run away.

But, for the rest of the game, you don't really need grenades.

Or, tell me again how you're going to kill the Warmaster with your old 25 sec. to refresh oj grenade?

So according to the code of conduct every senior member has replied to your post and disrespected. I commend you on speaking your mind, and that is what the first amendment is all about. I think those who disrespect a person for doing so should be ashamed, and these forums seem only to reflect how people who constantly want to mislead others feel. To the senior members who posted negative comments about this post how does it feel to work for Trion and troll on post that speak the truth. So now I will be forced once again to send an e-mail to the person who moderates these forums, and there boss.
