Dude, no one cares if a person uses the Surge Bolter by themselves in a minor event in the middle of no where. But it is a problem at major events when they're a dozen ppl using them.

Anyway, I cant believe this thread is up to 30 pages. If this doesn't get Trions attention on how Over Powered the Surge Bolter was before the patch and how God Like it has become now since the patch then nothing will. The gun was always muffed up.

Exactly. I don't mind the sniper rifles having huge one-shot spike damage (although in the case of the charged versions, it probably does need to be reined in a bit). It's the ridiculous hip shooting accuracy that's in need of an ginormous nerf, to the point where the only way to have any real chance of hitting something w/o using the scope is if it's right up in your face. Kinda like how sniper rifles work...

Usually arguing for realism in video games is a bad argument, since most departures from realism exist to make the game enjoyable to play. The sniper weapons in this game are an exception to that rule, IMO.

I hate sounding elitist (and I am a far way from reaching the achievements of many forum regulars - my highest warmaster damage was ~680k and only because I nearly soloed the outside), but if it takes you 24 minutes to solo a minor arkfall, then I can see why you would need a Surge Bolter.
The only minor Arkfall that should take more than a few minutes to solo is the Dark Matter destruction one.

I was at a minor arkbreak last night, a Huntmaster one. There was just me and one other person. I started with a BMG (leveling up), swiched to an infector, and we got through to the Huntmasters. Once they came out, we couldn't keep up with the drones. I tried my AR, LMG, SMG, pistol and rocket launcher. Nothing would put enough of a dent in those guys until I pulled out my SB. That finished them in a few minutes. So I guess there is a use for them as a last ditch choice.

last ditch choice if you dont know how to play this game. There are a hundred ways of taking them down that doesnt involve a SB

In any case, I was against nerfing it at first, but I guess I overestimated people's moral standards. I know I'm probably a textbook case of stupid in doing so, but I actually honestly thought that people would use whatever weapon they liked the most even though it wouldnt give them the crazy siege scores this does. Boy was I wrong.

The game knows. It's watching us. It wants us all to use surge bolters, and in the darkness bind us. I have proof.

For me there is a difference between your use of the Surge Bolter and the use people have an issue with. In your case, the two of you both would have failed the Arkbreak. Your choice to swap to easy mode meant you both succeeded. I still think it is wrong that there is a gun you can switch to and suddenly win any fight other than the Warmaster, but in your example its use did not negatively affect anyone... except for the Huntsmaster but you can't please everyone.

OK I don't normally bother posting to the forum and I tend to take most posts with more than a pinch of salt but I thought that I would try out the surge bolter to see what the fuss was about. Tonight I joined in a volge siege in San Fran midway through and with a basic green surge bolter with a green mag mod only and managed to score 38k.
Sorry to the rest of the players if they felt I was taking the p*** (Playing secondary character Fiona MacDonald)
If a casual player like me can single shot Kill elite volge with this it definitely needs modifying

Maybe Trion should publish more info on how the weapon stats are calculated and let the players help sort out where the errors are.
I have no problem with weapons being over powered in limited situations but not all the time

No one is faulting players for using them either. Whether it's because they are using them for amusement because of their overpowered DPS with high spike damage or because they use them as a crutch is irrelevant as well. It's human nature for a lot of players to want to use them for their efficiency and take the easiest path to a goal whether it's because they're lazy or are otherwise incapable of achieving a goal. That's what happened in PvP and that's what's happening in PvE.

The issue isn't the players. Like almost every other issue in the game it centers around the Trion development team, the multiple short-sighted changes it constantly implements that devalue the game, and it's unwillingness or inability to remediate the issues it creates in doing so. The fact that it was implemented under an update titled "weapon balance update patch" makes it pathetically ironic.
