Yay, gamestop screwed me out of my pre-order stuff

So I was pretty late to preorder the game (Easter) due to money issues, but I had finally managed to get enough money. I was super excited, and planning on getting the Ultimate Edition of the game. Go in to preorder and the guy tells me that I can't preorder that, but they do have 2 extras. He tells me I can preorder the standard one, then switch to the Ultimate one when I come in. Sounded reasonable to me, so I went with it, preordered for $5 and left. Go in today to pick up to find out that he lied, they didn't have any of the Ultimate edition in stock at all. So I had to downgrade to the collectors. Fine. I was disappointed, but otherwise I wasn't upset (I was late to it after all). Go through all that, got the season pass, went home. When I get home I started installing the game, and I looked at my receipt to find my preorder code and my season pass code, just to find that I didn't get a preorder code at all.

    Wow.

The only reason I didn't want to wait a couple days to get the Ultimate edition is because I didn't want to miss out on the preoder stuff, and here I am with a version of the game that I didn't want, and I didn't get a preorder code.

    I was furious.

So I called them up, they explained to me that because they had to cancel the standard version order that they had to cancel the preorder and I lost out on that code.

Bait and switched, lied to twice. Gamestop.

So I'll see you guys rolling around in your fancy cars, knowing damn well that I should have one too.

Funny thing is, this isn't even the first time Gamestop has screwed me over either. When I preordered GW2 they gave me a code already in use. Then when I asked them about it, they gave me another code that was already in use. Had NCsoft not been so kind, I would've lost out on my preorder bonuses there too. But that was a little before the launch of the game so everything worked out.

Skipping to the end instead of reading? Don't preorder from Gamestop unless the one near you isn't filled with scamming, lying dirt bags.

Thanks for reading my rant, had to post it somewhere just to vent some of the anger out. Promise I'm not like this normally.

I do have a question though.

If I can prove I had preordered the game (Receipt from the preorder) can I open a ticket with Trion to get the pre-order bonuses? Or am I pretty much screwed?

I'd try with trion, but try to talk with like sledge first, see what he says. But i'm thinking trion will honor it, I hope.

Sorry to hear that you lost the pre-order. I know the feel of getting jipped out of Ultimate, however.. as it happened to me too. I had the collector's edition preordered from the get go, but was trying to decide whether or not to get ultimate, if it'd really be worth it. They told me, that I could just get the collector's and order up. When I tried, I was told I couldn't, and that it was easier to downgrade instead of upgrade. The whole time the people at gamestop were completely apathetic to this game, saying there'd be no midnight release because only 10 people preordered it. God of War Ascension wasn't much bigger, but got a midnight release. When Halo: reach came out they had a surplus of legendary, but decided to not have any ultimate editions.. which was supposed to be exclusive. :/

Ouch. Honestly this game deserves more respect than that. Really any game that gets at least a single preorder deserves a midnight release. That's just downing the developers by saying "We don't think your game is worth it". Sucks you lost out on the Ultimate as well.

I really wanted that bag to carry my books around college with x.x Too bad that it'd be insanely expensive to buy from other people.

Yeah, like I said, the attitude toward this game for them was overall negative. Anytime we would go in to talk about it, they'd be completely apathetic to it. I'm sorry I'm not another sheep coming in to buy Call of Duty 25. I still don't understand how the ultimate edition could be an exclusive item for them, and they don't have any within the 5 stores in the area. And even worse, to talk to me, like they don't have any of the games in the back at all the day before, when I've worked at a gamestop for close to 3 years. I know they get them in before Street Date.

I'd say it depends on the store manager and the district manager as to what the requirements for hiring are (I never worked for GS), but your area sounds like it's not being managed properly. This is one reason why I think GS should require employees to know about major games (just the basics; they shouldn't require you to actually play or be uber-informed; that should just be a plus) and they should train their employees better on retail etiquette. Any employee that pulls bait and switch or steals another customers order or steals codes from a customer should be fired. Such things are not good for business. It's also bad business to have negative comments and/or apathy for a potential money-maker. I'd call Corporate and let them know exactly how your experience was and tell them that it is unacceptable. If similar issues happen at all 5 stores, I'd let Corporate know that their District Manager isn't doing his/her job.

I've gone into our local Gamestop 3 times before I decided to never give them my business again. First time in there, I asked about some PS2 game. One guy looked at me, gave an insulting laugh, looked at his buddy and said, "Yeah, this is why I came to work today, to answer lame questions." Second time, I asked about pre-ordering a game. Different guy but same insulting tone: "You call that a game?" Third and last time, I tried to ask a question. The guy picked up the phone (which hadn't rang) and started a conversation, all while holding his hand up for me to wait. As I stood there, two guys who looked like basement dwellers came up, asked a question and received his undivided attention.

I haven't been back. So when I hear about them screwing people over on things, I'm not surprised at all.
If at first you don't succeed, reload and shoot again.--advice from a crazy but much-loved uncle.

This forum is nothing but hostile to anyone with different ideals... OP, were you able to get your pre-order stuff?
