In most MMOs that Ive played, player housing usually doesn't come until later in the games life. DC Universe Online is a few years old and they just announced a Housing DLC to be added. So it may not be in he initial release, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was added later on.

Either way, housing doesn't make sense for characters contracted to go running off in to the woods, which is the essential plot for the players. It's a military mission, not Harvest Moon.

it doesnt have to make sense per se, but player housing, esp guild housing is always a good watercooler thing to have if u want to have ppl feel connected. Theres no connection to anything in COD right? cuz its a basic shooter, and u basically dont give a damn about anything or anyone except for K/D ratio. MMO's just by their initial design as a place for ppl to play together and confront common issues and goals seems to foster more than the blanket statement of "its justa shooter" imo.

i coulda sworn it was about ppl surviving or scavenging.. not just a merry band of mercs going stuff. but even then it would still make perfect sense that they have Bases.. and it would make perfect sense that bases had barracks, and it would make perfect sense that barracks had beds.. and well.. there you go... housing.

sure its not a house in a traditional sense but youve got a roof over your head and hopefully you rown private space

Def agree that it's a good idea for community. I just don't see it making sense for the plot... Which could change eventually. That said, when I used to play mmorpgs, I always saw housing as a waste if gold.

as did I.. unless the housing had some effect on gameplay (for example in FFXI if you crafted in your house you got certain effects also if you had certain furniture in your house you got crafting boosts and certain combat perk) but even if i didnt use or care about the housing it was great to know that i had the option.. to me thats why MMOs should be about.. options... its basically a living, breathing, VIRTUAL world.. the only difference between it and RL is that its virtual.. and irl you have plenty of options..

for example in some games i know ppl that make their money playing the stock market or selling weapons and equipment.. theyre super rich yet never participated in combat.. i like hearing stuff like that... if i wanted restrictions or a linear/predetermined path/course set for me.. i have LOTS of single player games with WONDERFUL plots.

Tho i'm not to devastated about the lack of player housing, even something as simple as PSU housing would have been awesome. Which in turn serves a purpose, doubling as the players personal shop.
I used to be an eager Ark Hunter like you, then i took a "soon" to the ear.

Technically, the Home Turf expansion that adds custom player housing releases on January 29th.

As for housing in Defiance, I think it could be a nice to have feature; however, I'd rather see the devs spend their time expanding the EGO powers (currently there's only 4), adding in a crafting system, and creating more "end game" content. I certainly appreciate the passion people have for housing in this game though, and if it makes sense, I'd welcome it with open arms.
