Every time I start Defiance it asks me to update.

I assume I am stuck in some form of cycle or something. Every time I start up Defiance it will ask me to update and it runs thru the opening scenes as if it was my 1st install.

It does not actually make me re-download the updates, but it is quite annoying to have to esc the intro and such every time.

I wiped my hard drive and downgraded from win 8 to Win 7 Ultimate and I get the same issue with a fresh os and fresh install of Defiance.

    Any ideas ?

That's just the way it is, many MMO's use this same feature, it's so people don't miss patches.

As for the esc on the intro video, I never checked to see if there was an option to turn it off but as I don't think there is..

Happy new year, enjoy your time here

It also means that its impossible to mod the game so the only way to cheat is to use the exploits that the devs are yet to patch, the patch check at the start doesn't take long so i don't mind it i know its there for a good reason

? That is pretty much SOP for most every game I play. I have to ask just how many online games have you played?
Most every game I play does a patch check, takes no time, and they all run through the company logo on log in.
I have to wonder why you went through all that trouble and expense for no reason.

Note: Going from windows 8 to windows 7 is no sort of downgrade. it is actually an upgrade. W8 is responsible for W7 being the best selling version of windows to date. When people get a new comp one of the first things they do; if they have the money, is wipe W8 and buy/install W7.

I'm on windows 8 with no issues on the game (luckily.)

However windows 8 feels like its a failed attempt at hitting the 'app' trend, the apps have more bugs than defiance, this is why I have a piggy bank to save my pennies so that I might buy W7... (Please note it's not a real piggy bank )

    Edit: otherwise Stan is right

I imagine windows 8 would work great on one of these new laptop/tablet hybrid but for traditional laptops and desktops win 7 is much more efficient (menu & gui wise) and setting are much more accessible (a must for every power user)

This is off topic, but due to abysmal sales of the OS and computer manufactures pointing a big{middle} finger at windows 8 as being responsible for the 18%{?} drop in sales. They have announced they are working on a windows 8.2, or 8.5, possibly 9 depending on development time, that will be far more desktop friendly. I'm hoping for 8.2, might have to pay for an 8.5 or 9. What that equates to is production cost.

I have been playing online and mmo games since way back to the first few that were released. I played wow for several years as well. I currently play rift, defiance, and a few others but not as often as rift and defiance.

Most every game I play does a patch check, takes no time, and they all run through the company logo on log in.
Rift does not require you to run an update check each time you start up. As well in rift you only get the cinematic or anything like that when you 1st install it or if you do some major change to the files. This was the same for wow and lots of the other online games I have played. I only had to accept the agreement or go through the cinematic after a major patch or some form of change or re-instal.

I have to wonder why you went through all that trouble and expense for no reason.
I was already in the process of removing win 8 to replace it with win 7. Its not a real expense or process. I have multiple computers and only this one and a touchscreen laptop had win 8.

Note: Going from windows 8 to windows 7 is no sort of downgrade. it is actually an upgrade. W8 is responsible for W7 being the best selling version of windows to date. When people get a new comp one of the first things they do; if they have the money, is wipe W8 and buy/install W7.
I agree. I have had this computer for a few months and decided to play with win 8.1, therefor I waited a bit to uninstall 8 and go with 7 on this machine.

I can live with the process, was just assuming it was an issue with the game seeing as Rift made by the same people did not have this process for starting up. With rift if you are stuck in this loop each time you start up there is a problem that is usually fixed by reinstalling.

    Then Rift is rather unique.
But ya, the patch check and opening cinematic are pretty common. If it's free to play, has a trial or demo, I've probably done it lol.

I had a copy of W7 for my Acer that fried; ate 2 power supplies then the MOBO fried, I tried to replace the W8 on this gateway with it, and it wouldn't let me I've been watching for a bargain copy of W7 on newegg, but I need a good graphics card more.

My rule of thumb since Windows 98 was released, is that once MS comes out with a new OS, you can be sure the previous one is working. With small exceptions such as ME, nothing would make that work.

@ OP - You are telling me you would like to remove the version check and creator's name from the opening screens? Am I getting this correctly?
