It was just unusual to me that I had to hit the update button each time I started Defiance, especially because Rift (also a Trion product) does not require the same. I guess most likely due to the fact that Rift has a fairly normal patch schedule with the exception of emergency patches, hot-fixes, or other oddities.
As for the creator's name, also not what I was saying. I do not mind that Defiance has the flash of their name before you get to the log in screen. But having to either hit esc or wait a few seconds through the Trion cinematic also is unusual compared to what I see on Rift and most other games I play.
Now that I know it is not an actual bug or problem, but an intended feature, I will hapily get used to hitting esc and then log in to play. Not an issue at all.
