I'd say it's more like Mass Effect 3, at least gameplay wise and if it was made into an MMO. While there also might be some similarities with Borderlands 2 that game though is an FPS which puts it in a different classification of games altogether.

Blur is like the poor man's Biotic Charge.
Overcharge is Adrenaline Rush without the time dilation. (multiplayer)
Decoy is Combat Drone except less useful.
    Cloak is Tactical Cloak.
Nano effects are the different ammo types.
    Same types of grenades.
You buy lockboxes either with real money or resources earned within the game. (multiplayer)
Weapon modifications that changes the look of the gun.
    Customize your face.
Play as a character that can be of either gender independent of class.
Dark Matter is a reverse Cerberus.
The Afflicted are some of the various Reaper forces. (husks/cannibals)

Also, ME3 came out 6 months before Borderlands 2.
What kind of post-apocalyptic world is this?
    Where are all the motorcycles?

There's a huge shocker... someone was inspired by someone else's work. Happens all the time, people.

There are many similarities, but borderlands did them better. There's only one thing defiance did better than borderlands and that was the vehicle spawning.

It's almost like they borrowed the frame work from borderlands but forgot to fill in the blanks.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

No **** its the same as borderlands, its an obvious cheap knock off. There is more content in a 5$ borderlands 2 dlc than defiance in its entirety.

So I'm clear on the subject before I make a contributing comment. You're comparing 2 games that each have:

    1. good guys/bad guys
    2. different but similar weapon types
    3. similar perks
    4. similar story lines

Couldn't this same comparison be made of thousands of different game titles?

This is the classic case of "Simpsons" & "Did it."

I really dont know why some people keep making sarcastic comments and saying how they dont like borderlands or dont like fps or make comments saying "but just cos its uses this does't mean its copying that" with the deepest of respect none of that has any point to the thread at all,Maybe reading all the comments might in lighten you,My 3rd comment quite clearly states i like defiance and i still play it. I also state i made this as a light hearted thread looking at 2 games that are very much alike and im not the only person to think so, Also all the comments apart from 1 guy have been respectful, So maybe instead of feeling the need to defend the game where it clearly does't need defending your efforts would be more wisely spent elsewhere.Im starting to think that people who spent $60 or more on this game are feeling the need to justify themselfs to the new players who picked the game up for $3-$10 my advice live with the choice you made and move on

One benefit that Defiance has over Borderlands, is if you get Defiance, you're not supporting Randy Pitchford.

    I think that's a pretty big bonus.
