And yes, whoever spearheaded the game at the start really screwed up the chat interface. They clearly didn't think it was important enough to develop a good one and now it has had long term ramifications with Trick and others trying to a fix on top of a broken foundation.
The old interface was fine, the issue is it just didn't work. You wouldn't get pop ups for new messages and the messages that would display in the chat preview would be stale, sometimes from hours ago. Those problems have nothing to do with console vs PC.

Just went and checked this out, and chat indeed is still no longer reliable. You can type something, see it appear, see people reply, open a menu see something completely different on the mini chat bar within menus and then exit and see something completely different again.

And you could almost forgive them for that, but the fact that they announce the DLC is coming with a big chat revamp before it's even fit for purpose is incredible. If it isn't ready, it isn't ready. But time and again we see DLCs pushed out with big issues.

    Not sure what to think?

Alright, so the alpha testers are not happy with how the new chat is performing. That tells me *some* things, but not all yet.

Does this mean that the chat performs better on a closed local network with a test server?
Does this mean that the chat is buggy all over, no matter how the game is played?
Did they release it on the test server, to get an idea of how it would perform in real world scenarios?
Did they release it on the test server, to break the news to people early that it might not be all it is cooked up to be?
Did they release it on the test server, to try and jump ahead of the problems and give themselves some time to come up with quick fixes to encountered problems?

This is your 3rd try Trion... at this point I am beginning to think, the chat is not the problem. The problem more so seems to be, your implementation of the chat into the engine itself?

There are a large amount of questions that could be asked about the chat system specifically.
Maybe we will get lucky and get answers to some of them.

They promised 5 DLC's in a year. For Season Pass holders, that's as good as a written contract. They could be in serious trouble if they don't get 5 out.

Chat is working as intended. On the GM version of the game, everything is fine. It must be something you are doing, Trion can't reproduce said issue.

I don't know why all of you can't just be happy it doesn't always read WWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Keep complaining. That will be the next UI update.

6/10 because there are enough people here who actually think that way that I can't be sure if you're trolling or not.

I miss the old "time-out" Amack! Statements like this are just so much wishful thinking.

You already know what the answer will be.

"This is how it's intended to work. We gathered information from several players and forum users {of course we can't tell you who...}, and they indicated that this is exactly what EVERYONE wanted! If it isn't working properly for you, then it must be:
    A. your system
    B. Your network/PSN/Microsoft
    C. You may need glasses
    D. Your powers of clairvoyance must need working on.
    E. All of the above
    F. None of the above.

Is there anything else I can help you with? No? Thank you. have a nice day."

Hopefully we can avoid that in the future, but only time will tell. If they screw up chat for a 3rd time, I swear... what is a person to do except lose all faith completely?

They need a working chat system for Season 2. No ifs ands or buts about it.
If they fail to produce a working chat for Season 2, it will be the single largest mistake I have ever seen in an online game. EVER, and I have seen my fair share.
