A bit of thought on the subject of Defiance, the fans, the forums...

    ...And everything thereunto pertaining.

Y'know, I logged on this afternoon---after my pancakes, bacon, a few bits of housecleaning, etc---and saw a whole string of threads that had been locked.

    This is disconcerting...and rather disheartening.

Ok Trion, I get it...yer getting tired of getting the screaming red-***** from us players, and the voices of criticism have gotten louder than you would like. Of course...in the players' defense, if the game didn't have so many bugs in it, then you might not hear so much carping...just sayin'...

All that aside...in the midst of my funk, I got on to Youtube and did a bit of surfing around...and found some inspiration. Ironically enough (or maybe not, depending on how each of you views it), the inspiration came from no less than the New York Comic-Con---and one each Grant Bowler.

(And for those of you who don't know who Grant Bowler is,...you epically fail. Turn in your Wolfhound immediately, leave this place at once and never darken these forums again.)

Grant had this to say on the subject of the fans:

    http://youtu.be/kHp_bw6NWLw?t=41m22s

Hopefully the video actually picks up where I wanted it to.

So...to bring this post back around to where I started...Trion, if you're getting tired of the cacophony of voices, just remember the words from the good Mr. Bowler...and remember that we are all fans first and players next. We just want the best for this game.

And that won't be accomplished by stomping on threads, no matter how illiterate or disgruntled they may be. Redouble your efforts and fix this thing.

    That is all.

You are correct sir, and I definitely agree with linking Mr. Bowler's speech as nobody could have put that as eloquently as he just did. Trion please pay attention to us, I know you think we are whiny punks who know nothing about the game industry, but we are your playerbase, and odds are, we know as much about the game as you do (or at least as much about the gameplay, if not the lore and behind the scenes stuff).

I would still recommend this game to anyone who likes a good shooter who plays on pc. There is fun to be had with this game. It may not be as epic as ... it is most certainly not as epic as it could be but it is worth ten bucks or less for the basic game.
    The future is anyone's guess.

I've consistently recommended / "talked up" Defiance to friends and communities, IRL and on forums like this. I get frustrated sometimes, though, and can lash out just like so many other people do here, we're all human, and we all know there's areas where the game can be improved, but we really should be trying harder to support the game and the show. I actually made a twitter account (gasp) just to follow some Defiance ?"feeds"? I don't really know twitter-speak, and haven't posted anything yet, myself, but I might try to get more active with it.

At it's current price I would still recommend the core game to anyone. On the PC the shooting and movement is very fluid and nice (at least on the PC version) and for the price there is lots of content given that so much of the DLC content is free. For a low price subscription fee free sci fi mmo shooter it's quite good.

I wouldn't recommend any of the purchasable DLC in their current state and I could never recommend Seventh Legion regardless of it's state anymore than I could recommend buying lock boxes or outfits at the bit store. I'm not the only one that feels that way and I think it's a big problem for the game as it can't run on air. Whatever income it's currently getting from bit store sales could be exponentially higher if there wasn't such a disconnect between the company and the players about the value of what the bit store offers and that is basically the company's fault.

IKR it's like they think they're selling real stuff at the bit store and there is no "there" there in 7th legion.

I think a lot of people hear the word sci-fi and imagine they are going to see something like Star Wars - lots of fighting and explosions. When they don't see that they are unable to process and so become angry and do not watch anymore.

People complain about the show because they expected something else, so really it is their own fault. The same can be said of the game. This kind of game with such synergy with other media has never been done before. Yes, the game has had its share of problems but to condemn everyone at Trion (and in some cases Syfy) is just childish.

Oh, and I think the locked threads are not done to silence opposition, many threads are closed because they break the rules - such as goodbye threads, callout threads or every just naming a thread something that doesn't explain anything at all. Then you have the angry player threads who come here to yell obscenities as much as they can, furrowing their brows in a vain attempt to understand.

And the bits store - each and every item therein - is a pure joke. No value whatsoever.
Inventory expansions are frightfully expensive and limited to one character rather than account-wide; a complete waste of $.
I considered bits for one purpose: inventory expansion, but now... no.

The next DL lacks C, and the game developer is proving more and more every day to be a shoddy fly-by-night gone-tomorrow hack shop. Nothing more is coming out of my wallet for them.

Ahh, but to hear them tell it, the bit store pricing is 'competitive'. I'm not certain what they could be possibly comparing it to, unless they managed to find another completely broken game with an overpriced cash shop no one uses in order to justify premium prices on recycled recolors of existing items.
