Chat was supposed to show up in the lower right corner whenever someone typed something in chat regardless of whether you had the large chat window open. It rarely ever did that which made it pretty useless as a chat function or as the community building tool that a proper chat system should be since you couldn't see any attempts to communicate with you in text chat most of the time. It was like running around deaf in the real world for over half of your game session. The chat updates properly now but the problem with it was that large chunks of chat would just simply disappear. Supposedly they fixed that but based on what some have aid that may not be the case.

It's looking good to me Deunan, you will see for yourself when you get in.
I am by far and away going to be the very largest critic on this issue.

PS3 EU it is not. What the problem actually seems to be is it 'rewinds' the chat and displays the chat from for example, 4 minutes ago, then over time shows the missing chat that it decided to hide, sometimes throwing in the odd line of new chat before rewinding to the same point it did before.

And it always did for me unless I set chat fade to zero then no chat ever displayed unless you brought up the chat window thus it was working like it should.

I have had chat up for 23 hours a day for the last three weeks on PC NA as I was in development or playing the console versions. I got private chat invites, which I often missed as I was busy, whispers, area chat, clan chat and even was grouped on more than one occasion. Didn't have any problems whatsoever.

I'm still waiting for Arsenic to give me an example of what wasn't working before that is working now as what you described sounds like your chat fade setting was too low.

That example would be coming from me. It won't happen. Don't hold your breath.

Version 2: Had to press Enter or keypad on controller to see any chat. Stop what you are doing just to see if someone said something. The slider didn't work worth a diddly. Even if it did appear, which was rare, if you picked up ammo or scrip it would disappear again.

    Version 1: ... I can't remember it, it's been so long....

that people are extatic about what is just a barebones, featureless chat system really shows how pitiful this all chat issue was, but hey lets rejoice at least it seems to be working (for some) for now.

Then you're the exception. Pretty much everyone I've spoken to experienced what I described and it's been discussed frequently both on the forums and in the game every time the issue of the dysfunctional nature of the chat system is brought up. It didn't update most of the time, it had nothing to do with setting chat fade to zero, and when you opened up the large chat window you would see dozens of lines of chat text that never appeared in the lower right hand chat area of the screen.

I also fail to see the point of stating that you had the chat window open 23 hours a day for the last three weeks as that only undermines you're otherwise incorrect claim that chat updates properly in closed window mode for the game as a whole since you would have been unaware if it was actually updating properly in closed window mode for those three weeks.

You may be waiting for a long time if you're waiting for Arsenic to provide you another example because this is the issue to which AT is referring. You can believe otherwise but that doesn't change that it was what it was.
