Now that the Surge Bolter is better then it was before (still needs to be less accurate while hip firing) and Echelon reps are gained just from playing PvP I decided to jump back in and say hello to PvP again.
Cloak is still dumb. Detonators are still stupid easy. And infector grenades are insta-kills in a can, just pop the top and have those little buggers chase someone to the ends of the earth and rip them apart (got to give infector bugs 25hp.) . But all and all the Surge Bolter getting nerf improved PvP from what it once was, which was 5 steps back and now PvP is nearly back to square one with 2 steps forward. Still not great but still an improvement.
PvP will never reach its launch day glory with the amount of players it once had while cloak still makes players invisible, protection spikes making players invincible, and Detonators being a 1 way over powered street of a weapon type.
* Hilarity ensues with the protection spike. It makes you invincible. So players now get into this little game where Team 1 goes after a capture point and they run right into the middle of things and drop a protection spike. Team 2 is shooting them to no avail and Team 1 is half/more then a half way from taking over the capture point.
Team 2 then jumps in with there own protection spike and stops the capture point from being taking over.
Team 1 protection spike runs out while Team 2 spike is still active. Team 1 now has to fall back.
Rinse and repeat. The team that owns the capture point is nearly imposable to dig out. (btw it was my team doing this every match since it was me leading by example doing it.)
On another note from capturing points me and some other guy were constantly running into each other and one of us would throw down a protection spike first and in result make the other one do so to. Towards the end of the match this would happen between us and we would just stop shooting at each other and just stand there and look at one another. Neither one of us could move out of our protection zones since if he did I would blast him with my sawed off and if I did I would get killed by his big boomer. Funny stuff. To bad emotes don't work or I bet we would of started dancing.
End result is protection spikes offer to much dmg resistance to the point players stop shooting and just look at each other.
* A solution to detonator balancing... Have it so that the bigger the explosive radius a detonator has the weaker that detonator is. As they are now there is no balance with them. Does there really need to be detonators with 7.2+ blast radius that also have 2500+ dmg while other detonators have 2.5+ blast radius and have 1200+ dmg?
Shouldn't the detonator that needs to be a more of a direct hit benefit from having higher dmg while the indirect detonators with larger blasts radiuses have over all lower dmg since they can hit targets 5x easier?
For instance lets say if the Crash Boomer and Big Boomer switched max/min dmg. It wouldn't ruin the Big Boomer since it would still benefit from having the biggest blast radius in the game making it a viable choice for PvP and PvE and explosive perks such as Deadly Cascade and Intimidation will help it in PvE where it would lack in dmg. And the Crash with its high dmg would still need to be a direct hit. So there is a plus side and a down side to using either one. Of course its not as clean cut as switching things around to fix them but more then less Detonators feel backwards.
* And Cloak..well Trion already knows. I hope a fix to cloak comes very soon.
