protection spike, cloak, detonators, PvP :)

Now that the Surge Bolter is better then it was before (still needs to be less accurate while hip firing) and Echelon reps are gained just from playing PvP I decided to jump back in and say hello to PvP again.

Cloak is still dumb. Detonators are still stupid easy. And infector grenades are insta-kills in a can, just pop the top and have those little buggers chase someone to the ends of the earth and rip them apart (got to give infector bugs 25hp.) . But all and all the Surge Bolter getting nerf improved PvP from what it once was, which was 5 steps back and now PvP is nearly back to square one with 2 steps forward. Still not great but still an improvement.

PvP will never reach its launch day glory with the amount of players it once had while cloak still makes players invisible, protection spikes making players invincible, and Detonators being a 1 way over powered street of a weapon type.

    * Hilarity ensues with the protection spike. It makes you invincible. So players now get into this little game where Team 1 goes after a capture point and they run right into the middle of things and drop a protection spike. Team 2 is shooting them to no avail and Team 1 is half/more then a half way from taking over the capture point.

Team 2 then jumps in with there own protection spike and stops the capture point from being taking over.

Team 1 protection spike runs out while Team 2 spike is still active. Team 1 now has to fall back.

Rinse and repeat. The team that owns the capture point is nearly imposable to dig out. (btw it was my team doing this every match since it was me leading by example doing it.)

On another note from capturing points me and some other guy were constantly running into each other and one of us would throw down a protection spike first and in result make the other one do so to. Towards the end of the match this would happen between us and we would just stop shooting at each other and just stand there and look at one another. Neither one of us could move out of our protection zones since if he did I would blast him with my sawed off and if I did I would get killed by his big boomer. Funny stuff. To bad emotes don't work or I bet we would of started dancing.

End result is protection spikes offer to much dmg resistance to the point players stop shooting and just look at each other.

    * A solution to detonator balancing... Have it so that the bigger the explosive radius a detonator has the weaker that detonator is. As they are now there is no balance with them. Does there really need to be detonators with 7.2+ blast radius that also have 2500+ dmg while other detonators have 2.5+ blast radius and have 1200+ dmg?

Shouldn't the detonator that needs to be a more of a direct hit benefit from having higher dmg while the indirect detonators with larger blasts radiuses have over all lower dmg since they can hit targets 5x easier?

For instance lets say if the Crash Boomer and Big Boomer switched max/min dmg. It wouldn't ruin the Big Boomer since it would still benefit from having the biggest blast radius in the game making it a viable choice for PvP and PvE and explosive perks such as Deadly Cascade and Intimidation will help it in PvE where it would lack in dmg. And the Crash with its high dmg would still need to be a direct hit. So there is a plus side and a down side to using either one. Of course its not as clean cut as switching things around to fix them but more then less Detonators feel backwards.

    * And Cloak..well Trion already knows. I hope a fix to cloak comes very soon.

emotes do work, if you are smart enough to type them. Dance is /dance, but not sure if emotes work in PvP, since I have never tryed.

Mostly valid points nerf, if they do indeed nerf the cloak.. They will have to rebalance detonators and incinerators, you can hit someone a mile off with them and if you can't cloak totally anymore then it's going to be very unfair.

I'm not sure how they would balance Cloak for PvP. It is either going to be really OP (as it is currently), or it is going to be crazy UP as if you aren't invisible what is the point. Perhaps full invis, but you have to stand still? Or maybe make it so you can't pop Cloak when people have you in their sights?

So is there one TRUE honest loadout or style of play? In cod players hated on you when you used any kind of launcher. I once got an angry message in cod when I used an LMG. I see people jumping like rabbits with one shot shotguns using cloak and protection spike, is that a hated tactic or is it business as usual? I love sniping but it usually ends with someone calling me a p**** for not running amok with an smg or a pistol. Just askin.

In fact, you can hurt people with Infector grenades in Protection spikes.
If I see one, I throw three or four grenades down there. Either, they run away from their protection spike because the bugs are chasing them and then they run righr into the arms of my tachmag or they stand still in their protection spike and my bugs kill them.
Swords are another funny way too to hurt people in the protection spikes. With the jump attack, people get knocked back, sometimes even out of the protection spike.
But of course! I'm not saying the protection spike isn't OP, because it is just saying that infector grenades (which you mentioned as well) aren't that bad.
You can almost counter any attack (well, besides sawed-off from Cloak, which I find another stupid tactic as well, as the Surge Bolter once was), even counter a protection spike, so I'm glad about the SB nerf.
It's fun to play PvP again. I really enjoy doing it now, and that's everything for me. I need to be able to enjoy a game and PvP pretty much the only thing I did all day long - until the SBs became OP.
So I'm glad that they did nerf them and I haven't seen a lot of them in PvP since.

They could try making cloak in PvP be more like the cloak of DM snipers, at a distance those guys can be hard to spot even if you know they're there. This would also help with the sawed off + cloak loadout being a problem since up close they are much easier to see thereby preventing people from running up and blasting you in the face with a fragger.

I thought it would be fun too, but yesterday I played a match on Observatory, and people just kept using protection spikes over and over and over. That match was anything but fun. I didn't know about infector grenades, so I guess I could try that, but I'm not sure that's enough of a counter if the entire enemy team keeps using spikes.

Any kind of fire and bugs work, infectors that spawn bugs... Incinerators, bonfires etc... Pyro and hatchling grenades.

    All kill through the spikes.
