Putting the cart before the horse Trion!

Now at the risk of becoming a broken record, i'm highly interested in this game but I need to know more about the mechanics before I will invest. If this game has levels how does that effect item progression? How long will pre-order weapons be effective, for that matter how long is MOST gear supposed to be effective? What kind of (un)useful stuff can we get out of this "lockbox"? How often is DLC coming, how much will it cost, and what will BE in dlc? Same with these bits except I would ask will a similar system to GW2 be in where players can buy/sell bits from other players?

This isn't a game coming out in a year, or late this year. This is a game coming in THREE MONTHS. I can literally find scraps on a game that should be entering the big marketing phase of the buildup. The current live action teaser does spark interest. Kudos. But I can tell you as a 28 year old female gamer that I would see the ad, look up the game, then maybe scratch my head at how little there is to know about the game. I'm not saying this has the makings of a bad game. But I can't say it has the makings of a good game either. I can't say much of ANYTHING about this game because of the extreme LACK of info on it. I certainly can't recommend or talk about this game to friends! This is how I imagine the conversation would go:

Me: Hey, did you see that new game coming out in April? The one with the show tie in? Supposed to be a TPFPS but with RPG stuff.

Random friend: No, what is it about?
Me: Um, not really sure. I think some aliens came to earth and tried to peacefully terraform it. But when we said no went to war and tried to terraform it anyway.

RF: Umm, ok that makes no sense. But so now you fight them right?
Me: Well no, apparently something got messed up so now I think the aliens and humans live together while fighting off the bug monsters that pop up around parts of the crashed alien ships we scavenge.

RF: ....Wait where did the bugs come from, and why are we scavenging ships?
Me: No idea on the bugs, but we get parts from the ships to upgrade our guns and gear.
RF: Um, ok then how does the game play? You said TPFPS. How does progression work?
Me: No idea yet. There are levels but no info.
    RF: Factions?
    Me: Nope.
    RF: Payment?
Me: F2P but no word on the cost of game currency or DLC
RF: Wait DLC? What is this DLC?
Me: No idea. But you can get a season pass in one of the pre-orders, and get into beta.
    RF: What does that cost?
    Me: Um...$149
RF: When does this game come out?
    Me: April
RF: ......I think i'll stick with WoW. Let me know how that turns out for you.

There is no way that you can get everyone to switch over to this game.

I'm not holding hope to convert everyone. The point is with 3 months to go I can't even give basic info on the game or it's back story to people. If the answers have already been released I'd love to know because I looked through the basic info sticky and linked sites and still don't know.

They have mentioned some stuff on the livestreams but I think they are not giving much info because that is for us to find out as we play.

We're starting to get more and more info on this game. By this time next month I'm sure we'll know quite a bit about it. Myll mentioned recently that next week we would get even more information. A good way to get info on the game currently is to watch the recorded streams here.

I personally will be waiting until I get to play (test) the game before I pre-order.

The short answer is, because of NDA, people who may or may not know this stuff aren't allowed to say anything, and because this game is tied in with the show, they can't really spoil too much of anything world story-whise unless they have authorization from SyFy who is producing the show, hence why there is so little info out there. The whole thing is a double whamy (sp?) of secrecy.

We'd all like to know about this DLC stuff, and the other stuff that comes in the packs, and it is in relatively poor form to not give any kind of explanation considering the lack of much of any news at all about the game, but I don't know what else to say other than to have patience. Obviously not everyone is going to like that answer, and thus won't pre-order, and that is their choice.

I will say here what I say in many threads: Secrecy is there to protect the company from getting flamed about any changes they make between now and release. Yes we want answers, and we of the information age do not like waiting to get those answers, but patience is a good thing to try and get.

Actually that wiki is one of the first places I looked. Tell me how stuff like this is helpful in explaining the game to people.

    XP and levels

Players in Defiance are classless, you gain XP and go up levels, but you do not pick a class, instead opting for choosing technology and weapons to suit your purpose.

    Crafting

Players are able to modify weapons to suit their abilities in the Salvage Matrix.
    *upon following link*
Salvage Matrix is the player ability to modify weapons in the Defiance game.
But you are right. When I re-looked at that page I found something I missed. That in itself shook my confidence in this game to it's core.

A persistent Alpha testing phase is currently running. Defiance held its first Beta test on January 18th, 2013 at 8:00AM PST which ended on January 20th, 2013 at 9:00PM PST for PC users.
Wait so we are not only asked to pre-order a game at $59-149 with little to no info on the game. But we are asked to do so on a game coming out in 3 months when the game is still an ALPHA? I get the need for the NDA, but how can I possibly in good faith spread the word on a game that is apparently getting not just a rushed release, but SHOT OUT THE DOOR?!
