So what exactly is going on here? I got on Sunday and there were huge numbers of people doing the incursions, probably more than I have ever seen. Plenty of folks wandering the landscape and hanging out at the usual places as well. I get on last night (Monday) and I don't think I saw one other person. No incursions, and every arkfall I went to was empty.
Is this right? How can I be the only person on a server for over an hour? I assumed I was just lagging and I just wasn't seeing anyone, but no arkfalls or sieges were progressing.

Will repeat myself here:
There are only 2 definite ways to beat the "lonely" shard.
1. Go to your friends list in the radial menu. If more have a red icon next to them than a green one, that means they have the fortune of populace! Port to one of them and revel in the magic that is a "busy server".
2. Turn the game off and watch Netflix
If you haven't amassed any friends yet, look at joining one of the larger clans. Attempt to talk with ppl.
Lately, I've noticed the daily contracts overrun with ppl...Send a friend request. Be assertive!
That lonely shard deal is fine with me. I tend to be a hermit.

I play through the Empty Shard - Sieges and Arkfalls still pop - I think of myself as the first on a new shard rather than the only on a lonely shard.

Like I said earlier, I seek it out to level weapons without interruption or interference. It does have some advantages.
I too am a fan of the quiet shards.
There needs to be some way to select what shard you log in to. If there was, that would end the "no one is play, they game is dieing" comments.

Yes, alone is great for leveling, filling up the combat pursuits or just leaving the knuckle-draggers behind.
The downside is that all the weapon drops while dong emergencies are white or green. Blowing through fragment emergencies is a quick was to get perk points, but you're not going to collect keys, and breaking down white weapons for salvage is a slow grind to buying keys.
At least arkfalls will drop some purples for me. If I can get to the end.
