Is cloak overpowered? And my (and your) ideas how to fix it.

We've all been there in Observatory with the nano-fragger-zagger guy who stays cloaked and blows you away every time you get into a hallway or just whenever you unknowingly cross his path. And like steroids in a loosely regulated sport many of us have taken up the cloak and joined the invisible fray. The trick is to cloak at the right moment so the other cloaked guy runs out of cloak juice and you can see him long enough to nano-frag/surgebolt him into orbit. Then you run away from the scene of the crime like a crack head on his final prison free night firing your 10% EGO recharging 2-barrel at nothing in particular so you can recharge, re-cloak and start looking for another unsuspecting guest to invite to your private party all over again.

So I had an idea. I've seen this discussed before but I think I have the solution:

Motion Shimmer Cloak. Cloakers who run will shimmer like in PVE. Walking/sneaking will be less visible and shimmery. Motionless for a second or more will be completely invisible.

I am a guy who often uses cloak and am guilty of hitting some people so hard with a fragger that they didn't have time to wave to George Clooney as the broke orbit into interstellar space. I would be fine with a change that makes cloaking take a little more in the way of tactics. And it makes just running up to an unsuspecting person a bit harder. Also in my opinion it will possibly make cloak users have to behave like the cloak was intended. They will have to stay farther away and shoot from cover and not use it for point blank attacks as much.

The one thing about the pvp in this game is it's different to other games and a challenge, if you get rid of the full cloak then it's going to turn into another boring camp with snipers etc game.

Rocket launchers and cankers will turn over powered, if I can see some one a fair way off them I'm going to 1 shot them with my precise chaos and it's not going to be fun for them lol.

    Is this normal?

I kill a guy in cloak. 10 seconds later the same guy kills me... and he's cloaked. Isn't there supposed to be a timer on the damned thing? When I get killed using blur, my blur needs to load up from scratch after I respawn. Is there a glitch or some trick to keep the cloak downtime to minimum?
And this practically is my only problem with the cloak. I don't want it to go away. I even don't want that 'shimmer when moving' gimmick. Just give it a proper recharge time.

It isn't that cloak itself is the issue. It is the stacking ego recharges. You shouldn't be able to completely recharge your ego with 3 shots from a sawed off. The 10% EGO plus the other recharge perks should only be applied once per ego recharge, not with each shot. Poor ego mechanics is what leads to people running around constantly cloaked.

That's the problem. What we have in DEFI is perfect invisibility. Which creates a one-sided fight. There is no instance in DEFI PvP that being invisible is not beneficial. Cloak has not one single downside. Not one. The shimmer should be on while in motion, period and if they can't do that, then at the very least cloak should not give you instant shield regen. It's not even a question of whether cloak is broken/overpowered. It's a question of why would one bother using any other EGO power.

    shields down cloak on

What if when cloak is active you have no shield. That would help all im doing is finding a needle in a hey stack with big boomer the weapon helps trying to locate them. think why have shields on when your cloak is on that would help when we do find them most of the time they got one hit wonder weapons so give an take. Give us a fighting chance an take there shields away when they have cloak on.

I was mopping up cloakers with Decoy and sensor sweep perk. But not every one want's to run decoy.

IMO The motion based shimmer would balance cloak with the others I think. It would take away the combo of total invisibility/full running speed. Which is what allows the sawed off shottie guys to cloak and close distance with you so easy. They would at least have to think about the angle they approach you from with some shimmer for you to see. Or they would have to stay in a smaller area and let victims come to them.

Everyone cried that the curge bolters ruined pvp, but now you just have people being cloaked all the time ruining it.

I'm sure the people that like to use cloak are the ones who complained about the surge bolters.

I for one do not do pvp anymore. it is always a one sided fight. I've seen guys go 65-1 and the next closest guy was at 14 kills.

It doesn't take any skill to kill someone when you cant see them ..... I THINK TRION SHOULD NERF THE HELL OUT OF CLOAK, OR GET RID OF 0.0 RELOADS

I think Trion should fix the glitched weapons and invincibility "glitches" before they worry about nerfing another weapon...

They took away perk stacking and gave protection spikes and heal stems.....

How about fixing the actual problems with the game?
