I'm must be stupid. Do not understand gun mods

I tried looking at the help document in game and not able to make sense of them. And tried messing around with mods and not make any sense either.

I must be pretty dumb. Somebody please help me understand mods? How to attach? When to attach?

    Thanks.

open ego, go to mod screen, select weapon that has open mod slots, place appropriate mods, reap benefits from mod on weapon, benefit is listed on mod and ADDS to the weapon, so a pistol barrel mod which increase dropoff range(the max range the weapon is capable of doing damage) will be increase by the value listed on the mod,

remove mod to keep it when elling weapon.

How do you know if weapon has an open mod slot?

unfortunately you can't do both. you can remove the mods but it destroys the weapon or you can destroy the mods to keep the weapon.

I'm still trying to figure out how to add mod slots... In the Alpha and probably Beta, you could select any weapons using the modify menu and then select add mod slot. This would randomly add a mod slot to any of the 4 spaces on your gun that did not already contain a slot, for the cost of some scraps, or whatever its called now (green crystals).

In the game today I was trying to mod just any gun, and the only option I was given was to destroy the gun's. Unless there's a specific area or level you need to be (I never payed attention to it in the Alpha) I think it may have gone missing. :O

Gun modding just downright confuses me too xD

I can see there are many options and I understand when a gun can be modded and what it can be done with, but why can't I take mods away or add slots onto anything? Does it have anything to do with my EGO?

can you make a guide for modding, and does modding eat your guns like in the beta?

I plan to figure it out once I get a mod for a gun I actually have. So far I have only gotten mods for Rocket Launchers and Detonators.
