Even if the randomly selected t4 mods match your randomly selected weapon's synergy, you have no idea what the rolls are on that weapon. Nothing about this randomly selected garbage has anything to do with how a player prefers a weapon to perform. Imagine that you pay this crazy amount of money and actually pull a wolf. Do you want a melee stock to go with your lack of a recoil roll? You might get one! Do you want a damage or falloff barrel to match your crit roll? You might get one! Oh, you'd love precision scope to go with your "accuracy" roll? You might get one!!!! AT LEAST THEY'RE ALL TIER 4!!! YAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY

Stunning price tag is stunning, no doubt. Let's talk about the math behind and rationale for the Legendary Weapon Kit.

First up, the cost. This wasn't a number we pulled out of thin air. It was based on analysis of store use data and existing lock box prices and functionality. An Epic Mod Hoard is 700 bits and grants four random mods at epic rarity. A Tier 4 Lock Box is 400 bits and grants four random weapons at random rarity between rare and legendary. The Legendary Weapon Kit is 10,000 bits (currently discounted 20% to 8,000 bits) and grants a one of each type of mod at epic rarity matched to a random weapon at legendary rarity. This price is based on the average cost of purchasing Epic Mod Hoards and Tier 4 Lock Boxes to get the same value: a legendary weapon fully loaded with epic mods.

We went over the math again and also wrote up a quick simulation and the Legendary Weapon Kit lock box is on average equal to purchasing eight Tier 4 Lock Boxes and eight Epic Mod Hoards in order to get a legendary weapon and epic mods for that weapon.

Now there is a difference in price that may or may not be worth it for people depending on whether they value the extra items you get from purchasing separate lock boxes versus guaranteeing a legendary weapon, but they are certainly within range of each other.

So if you are the guy who feels like he is screwed by RNG, this is a way to mitigate it.

Second, the reasoning. Lock boxes have been in Defiance since the beginning. They've always been purchasable using in-game currency or premium currency. Our intent was to give players a guaranteed way to get a legendary weapon with matching epic mods, reducing the variables involved. The Legendary Weapon Kit is a lock box that introduces a convenience that the Epic Mod Hoard and Tier 4 Lock Box items don't grant on their own. Ultimately, this is part of providing multiple ways for players to play the way they want. Also, from the initial data we're seeing, some ark hunters agree that it's a premium they're willing to embrace: Legendary Weapon Kits are selling well.

We continue to evolve each player's ability to play Defiance how they want. With our fifth DLC we're creating a way for players to earn a special currency which will allow them to purchase top-tier gear by facing more challenging content, allowing another way for players to mitigate RNG.

With the Legendary Weapon Kit, we enable players who wish to play with a fully-modded legendary weapon to do so at a premium price. They could acquire similar items through gathering keycodes and faction rep, but this bypasses the significant time and risk involved in that process.

So what I get out of this is we borked up the rng and the ability for solo players to get keycodes in any meaningfull quantity so much that now we have to pay 80 bucks for an orange? Dude....
