First up, the cost. This wasn't a number we pulled out of thin air. It was based on analysis of store use data and existing lock box prices and functionality. An Epic Mod Hoard is 700 bits and grants four random mods at epic rarity. A Tier 4 Lock Box is 400 bits and grants four random weapons at random rarity between rare and legendary. The Legendary Weapon Kit is 10,000 bits (currently discounted 20% to 8,000 bits) and grants a one of each type of mod at epic rarity matched to a random weapon at legendary rarity. This price is based on the average cost of purchasing Epic Mod Hoards and Tier 4 Lock Boxes to get the same value: a legendary weapon fully loaded with epic mods.

Here’s Technical Design Director Peter Ju with more details:

Second, the reasoning. Lock boxes have been in Defiance since the beginning. They've always been purchasable using in-game currency or premium currency. Our intent was to give players a guaranteed way to get a legendary weapon with matching epic mods, reducing the variables involved. The Legendary Weapon Kit is a lock box that introduces a convenience that the Epic Mod Hoard and Tier 4 Lock Box items don't grant on their own. Ultimately, this is part of providing multiple ways for players to play the way they want. Also, from the initial data we're seeing, some ark hunters agree that it's a premium they're willing to embrace: Legendary Weapon Kits are selling well.

Defiance’s fifth DLC is already in production and Creative Lead Trick Dempsey has insights into our direction moving forward:

Lastly, thanks for your patience while we took the time to reply. The team’s been keenly following today’s threads and are discussing your snap feedback to Gunslinger Trials. We aim to be much more proactive with the sort of information in this response and hope to preempt concerns about game direction.
Dude, there's no excuse for this. Now you know why your predecessor left.

Honestly, I don't see the big deal.

I personally think 80 bucks is high too, which is why I'm not buying one.

But if there are people out there willing to spend 80 bucks on them and they're selling well, then I don't think you can really fault them for selling it at that price.

It's not like any of us NEED legendary weapons to play the game, so it's easy enough for those of us that don't find value in the 80 dollar lock boxes to ignore it entirely. People who are willing to spend the money can do whatever the hell they want.

Seeing now over 20 pages against this Legendary Weapon Kit, whether it's the price of it, or against it's existance. I think this Kit was a bad idea. Your comment to rebtattoo saying that letting players sell/buy weapons for real money is something you may look at to explore feasibility of it is very concerning for me as a player of this game. In each trade forum on here (in the NA sections) it states in a sticky that buying/selling for real money is not acceptable, and doing so can get you banned or even all your gear deleted, it happened in the PS3 community once.

While we're at it epic mod hoards are a similar problem. The value of these are going up more each day, people want them, but I'm seeing more players lately wanting ridiculous amounts of stuff in return for these mods. And I'm hearing the excuse "Well I paid real money for these mods so I want a good orange AR or two for this mod". They have a point but just because someone is willing to pay real money for something shouldn't make them much better off than someone who isn't. It's becoming pay to win. This isn't what Defiance was supposed to be.

And also having salvage conversion to keys costing scrip again, in addition to making the cost of opening mod slots go up in the salvage matrix, is too much. We barely have enough scrip to open the faction lockboxes as it is now. In the past, when mod slots would cost more to open, you didn't have to pay scrip to convert salvage. When you finally reached a higher EGO, and weapons came with all slots open, it was a nice bonus to use salvage to buy lockboxes more. But now there's not much point in converting salvage to keys. Unless you want to throw away your scrip.
This was actually the point I was trying to make. I guess I forgot to add the {sarcasm}.

Defiance "wasn't supposed" to be pay to win. Trick all but said this during one of his first live streams. Wonder what, or who, changed his mind. And, to have the audacity to try to sell it like it was planned all along. That's just ****ed up!

With there being what 25 different weapons, more? How many different rolls? How can this be pay to win? You don't "Win" when you have an orange, hell most of them are garbage like everyone says. This is not pay to WIN, this is pay to beat the RNG a lil. Cause the RNG is Still going to make these boxes almost worthless. Pay to win would be buying oranges that have WAY higher base stats then the oranges in the game now. Orange doesn't mean good in this game, so buying oranges does not mean WIN. If you think it does, I hate to tell you this but, you suck its not your guns.
