I understand the above from a purely mathematical perspective.
There is so much more to it than math however. Has your marketing dept considered the impact this will have on not obtaining folks that otherwise would have come to the game?
I mean you have raw data on folks that are already here, but how do you reconcile data that you can't possibly have? I for one read up on games BEFORE putting money down and trying them. If I wasn't already here invested in Defiance, I would NEVER come here at this current time simply by what I am seeing Trion doing with this game.
That would be potential money lost from me and others who don't blindly jump into new games.
When I see certain practices that I don't like in a game I am considering getting into, that is a turn off, and I usually end up taking my interests elsewhere. Money that could have been had.
A small blurb about folks who have or will purchase the expensive orange colored RNG generated item. I don't have an issue at all with you folks. It's your money, I won't like you or dislike you anymore than I already do. It's a complete non-issue to me.
My 100% total and complete problem with that offering is with the company. It simply sets a business practice that has ramifications that I'd rather avoid. I actively eschew companies like this, I won't recommend this game to family or friends. I will eek out as much value from the money I've already spent here because I'm the type of person that likes to get their money's worth. If things remain on this path, I will likely not spend any more money here. These are ramifications that your data mining may or may not account for, but at least I'm telling you about it so that you will give the future of Defiance some deep thought.
