download speed, game deleted , restart

well another post about download speed ..

i predownloaded 10 gigs ...launch happens , ran the patcher said liek 2 minunts .. was going at a good clip disconected for some reason

start the patcher agean .. says 30 hours , check the file size for defiance .... 0 .. its downloading the whoel game agean :/

added defiance to fire wall exceptions turned off anitviurs ... nothign helps 2 hours left now and im wondering is it going to delete the game when its finished and restart or what?


the beta was simple simon ... worked fine no problums downloading patching or playing . its still on my computer ... is it possable that could be causeing problums with the full game ?or is it possable to just change where the beta virson connects to just use that insted ?<have done that with other games?

trion .. what did you change in the patch process from the open beta to release client ? maby if you figure out what is diffrent you cant fix it so we can download properly and play the game ...

Pretty sure a lot of us are going to be f**ked over by this for the next few days. I haven't seen a single Trion post even acknowledging the problem.

ok so the patcher just restarted it self .. i had 2 hours to go .. now i have 10 hours to go .. seriously guys you should fix this patcher and put up the fixed one some place for us .. obviously theres soemthing wrong with it .


theres a whole lot of thease type of posts and yah .. not a peep from trion .

i've paused and restarted my updater umpteen times today!
trying to get it going faster than 0.05MBs!!

When I close the updater and reopen it, it does start again from 0 but quickly checks through the stuff already downloaded at 200MBs to 400MBs and gradually slows down to where it was when stopped and continues downloading.

Got my speed back up to 0.45MBs so shall be playing in no time ^_^

My girlfriend's game just deleted itself after having run just fine earlier today. It's now re-downloading.

Mine I can't even get it to install. The patcher is an older version than her patcher and has no text in the patch notes and no picture in the left side.

What's real creepy is that I uninstalled my alpha and beta copies, and the runtimes, deleted all the folders, deleted anything about defiance in my registry, and somehow the patcher still knew my login name. It's like my computer has a ghost version of the alpha/beta patcher or something.

Having Steam validate files, delete local files, re-installing, etc. does nothing for me. My patcher just keeps giving me a missing version error. And I can't download the installer from Trion's website either. That just goes to a broken page.

mine also does not show the patch notes though it does show the pictures

haha well speed picked up at some point to 2 megs .. then it restarted .. it showeed 2 days download .. then restarted itself agean and ran normal 2mb download finished in a few minunts .. was happy then restarted it self agean ! lol this time gets down to 2 minunts to go and jumps up to 10 ... and apprently it does not show the speed any more .

while im sitting here watchign paint dry .. its going form 1:59 seconds to go up to 2:38 .. thats been going on for 10 minunts ...

40 seconds .. xing fingers .. wish me luck and good luck every one

edit .. and nope .. verifyign install .. restarted 10 mins to go at 2mb download ... ****in hell

edit :whoray it finished .. err nope .. patch error try agean later .. update agean 10 minunts left at 2mb .. wahts that about a gig every time it cycles ?

After a good 60 hours of trying to get it to work, it finally finished installing and everything seemed fine. Then I went in the game and played for about an hour. Everything was working perfectly, except my preorder items were nowhere to be found, so I logged out, and based on the Steam advice to validate my game files, I validated it, then it installed a small file. When I started the patcher again it had erased all the files in my Defiance game folder and restarted the entire 22 hour game download.

This seems like almost for sure a situation where Steam and Trion Worlds have not coordinated their files, and it's causing immeasurable grief for everyone who bought this game. Meanwhile Nathan Richardsson is cracking jokes. How can the team make a game like this and be so incompetent that player are left struggling to download the game for 60-80 hours straight? And how can they reconcile this with the players? All I want to do is start playing, but I'm starting to feel like Trion Worlds really owes players some kind of compensation for all of this pain and suffering we're enduring by their hands.

Compensation could easily be done in one of a number of ways: experience bonuses, additional limited in game items, additional locked boxes, etc, or even free Rift game time. The bottom line is this is totally unfair to players, and in many cases the support are making the problem worse rather than better. They're telling people to restart the patcher after 10, 20, or 20 hours of progress to cause their download to reset to the beginning. They're also blaming peoples' systems all the time when it's often likely issues with the download server. The support guy I dealt with yesterday didn't even know the patch servers were down yesterday for updating. Everything they tell you is inconsistent with what Nathan Richardsson has said in his announcements. They don't know anything except to follow the script.
