Finished this last night after reading this thread.

My main mistake was trying to kill everything on the screen. Don't do this, as others have mentioned you want to hide in the front of the room where Jack is. I used the large tank on the left hand side because the mobs were not able to come around the far left end of it due to it's proximity to the wall. Once the smelters come out you will most likely miss the backpack on a few of them and need to kill them as they rush your hiding spot. This is not an issue as they come one at a time, and when they emerge from the floor hatches they stand there not targeting anything until you take your shot. As soon as you see one lightup and run for the furnace, jump out and position your self for a shot at Jack.

X= where you want to hide (large metal canister incased in metal frame)

Took me probably 15 smelters since I rarely hit the smelter furthest away from my hiding spot. Used a LMG for all stages.

I told my son, if you love me you'll do this for me, I'm never going to beat it. He said if I want to play I have to do this one myself and I did it! That's right, when I aim and shoot I swear the bullet goes the other way. After 5 tries I went back and equipped ever flame item I could. Also a shield that regenerates quick with a bonus flame sheild. A lot of patience and did it after 3 more tries. First part is easy just clear out the room hiding in the back and never leaving that spot, those guys seem to almost never go there. After cut scene I stay hidden in the back to the left. Ignore everone but the smelters. Wait for them, in fact wait for them to shoot their flame at you. Melee right then when their flame is active and almost 70 percent of the time they'll catch themselves on fire, might of been the gun I was holding. Equip you strongest weapen then and load off on Joe.

Like I said, a lot of patience, don't try to get ot over with quick you'll end up starting over again and again. When Joe is around 40 percent health just run, he'll even preoccupy his time with the AE giving you a few shots, then run again.

I hated this mission just as much as everyone else, but I did it. And if I can.. don't give up, the reward is getting to move on

yeah this mission is game breaking not fun, they really paint themselves in the corner with these incredibly niche fights.Just another nail in the coffin for this game for me.

Yeah it took me a few tries to get it figured out. I tried every weapon I could get my hands on that did good damage and still notta. Finally I found using Flame Grenades when the smelters came out did the trick. I'd stay hidden behind the Large Canisters in the Back near where you start. Wait for Grenades to reload and then pop and and throw. The Smelters never ran out till you were visible for a few seconds to them. At least for me they didn't. Then when his shield went down hit him with a saw with fire damage.

But I do agree this should not have to be a solo mission, the chick on the scaffolding couldn't hit the broadside of a barn if she was standing in it....

yeah, this one was a beast but not as hard as Nim Shondu which I am on round 8 with...gawd I hate the final boss.

I am a huge defiance fan but this fight is killing the entire game for me. Anybody even know a cheat or ANYTHING that will get me past it?

Hid behind the boxes that align with joe. When the smeltes come out.. Wait till they come to u and melee them... They should fall and roll to their stomachs. Shot their backs and thier u go.

No, seriously. Wait until they blast you with their fire, then melee them. They'll catch themselves on fire. Try it. If it doesn't work I'll logon and see what gun I was holding because it seems when I switched my guns it didn't work.
