Question about leveling up weapon skills

Yeah... I'm really really glad that I held on to the EMC XAR22 A/R and Detu Ara pistol from my first play through of the main story.

It does take awhile to level them up when you get higer. My 1035 toon is at 18 in smg. it takes me probably 6 guns maybe more to get it up one level. The guns I like to use I try to level them up as fast as I can. My first toon I played I was resetting the mastery alot, but realized it was cheaper to just get them to 20.

Right now, I have about 10 smg's in my inventory as soon as it gets mastered I change it out and either sell it or turn it into ark. I also buy some green damage barrels for the smg's and when they get mastered i just retrive to mod and the gun gets lost, and use the mod for the next gun.

You will get them up, it just takes time

I like my Detu Ara. I also still have my pre-orders (Hydra and Sporeshot) even though they suck, don't get all the rolls and no synergy.

The slowdown is surprising if you don't know it's coming.
Here's to put it in perspective. On a new character, one Blue Wanyu from the 7th Legion bonus cache got me to level 5 before it mastered. While leveling up pump shotguns to twenty on my higher character, even between something like level 16 to 17 I was resetting stuff constantly to keep leveling.

Just to make sure you are still progressing with the skill, there is a small line at the bottom of your gun on the HUD (its between the gun icon and your scrip/keys). If that line is moving, you are still leveling the weapon skill. At skill level 20, the line will stay almost white just pass the key icon.

If it's not moving at all anymore, and your not using a weapon with full XP on it, then you need to toss in a bug report/live chat.

One last thing I remembered, do not try to level your guns in the starter area where the mutants spawn constantly near that downed strato-carrier. The damage you do to those mutants will not progress your weapon xp at all.
