I haven't played since before the 1st DLC but to my recollection I remembered somewhere that they said that the DLCs would have two different versions. The paid kind where players who bought them got bonus stuff etc and the free version where you still got access to the missions etc.

Is this still how it is or did Trion change their minds somewhere down the road?

I only ask b/c I had plans to come back once all the new content with the DLCs was playable. I played a for a few hours and I didn't see any new story missions, items/weapons (with exceptions to spikes and stims).

Please someone give me the 411 on this.

I don't recall if they ever committed to having a paid/unpaid version of the DLCs, but there's certainly a sense of disappointment in the quality if the DLCs among friends and clan mates.. possibly the community in general.

Paid DLC gets you a crumby lockbox with green and maybe blue DLC weapons, the ability to use DLC weapons, and some new pursuits, some new faction vendors (for some DLCs). Story content was pretty minimal but DLCs did add Thorn Liro and Gunslinger arenas, Volge Warmaster Arkfalls, and 7th Legion Incursions. The Castithan DLC also added a character redo as they added the Castithan race to the game.

Most of the unpaid content is really just patch work... and the new scoring system.

But wait... there's even more change coming for DLC5!!
