I'm not sure if anyone else has been working on this, or if I'm just chasing a red herring. In the "Job Identifier" EXIF field of 4 of the images from the Defiance tumblr site, there is a hexadecimal value that is a salted cipher. Each one is prefixed "Salted__", then has a 12 bit salt followed by a 6 byte phrase, which I believe would be the 6 character arkfall code. I wrote a batch file to test the most common/likely algorithms using OpenSSL against each one based off whatever password I give it. I've tried a number of Defiance related passwords, but none seem to work, including a few of the words, dates, etc that is specific to each photo from the tumblr site.
Does anyone know if Adobe Photoshop (or other photo software) will normally drop a cipher into the "Job Identifier" field, or was this specifically added by Trion? Is anyone else working on this? Has anyone seen reference to a "key" or "password" while searching for codes?
