SweetFx bannable or safe?

It should be bannable out of principle (I love modding in general)

Anyone willing to take a dump on their image quality with sweetfx (blurring everything except edges which get oversharpened with that crappy lumasharpen, oversaturating the colors till they **** your eye sockets )is dumb as hell.

I just started using SweetFX to see if they will ban me. I mean the gfx look ok but there is no hacks in anyway about this.
I have never hacked and never will, I bought the 100$ preorder so why would a guy making minimum wage risk getting banned over hacking? SweetFX isn't a hack in ANY way! Also if they want, I can go play Warframe which is a new game just as cool as Defiance is. Same 3rd party mmo type game, so the more stupid bans they do, to more profit to Warframe(a good game, I played Beta).

Blurring everything? I see allot of over saturation and over sharpness but not any blurring. It would be nice to have SweetFX for your character and regular for the rest imo. The game is lacking greatly in the gfx department. Everything is already very blurry, they need to work allot more on the gfx once they fix the rest of the bugs.

Just getting some contrast in there along with sharpening can get the textures to look better in the first place. I admit a lot of presets do oversaturate, but amusingly enough that's a user's personal preference. I don't mind it so much since everyone can set it to whatever they like. Should we be forcing people to use the same Gamma/Brightness setting?

Well, Planetside 2 players were banned for using SweetFX, or so I've read on these here forums.

Someone here posted that they got a 24 hour suspension from Trion for using SweetFX in Defiance.

I'm somewhat skeptical of that, simply because the email they posted showed that they'd been reported by another player for using a 3rd party addon, and I can't think of anything in SweetFX that would be visible to another player that they would feel the need to report.

This is what I got back from a GM about SweetFX and using it.

"Thanks for the inquiry.

I apologize, but we are unable to provide you with an official response regarding the types of programs for which we monitor. This would be a severe violation of our policy, which is why I am addressing this communication personally.

Again, thanks for your inquiry, but we are unable to accommodate your request at this time."

this was from the lead GM.

This guys just play the game with it you bug em enough they will ban it just to shut everyone up.
They wont make a post this is not a new thing if you want a post to use it then don't end of story.
If you want to make it so no one can use it because your too much of a sissy to run it like 1000s of others who don't freak out about being banned as the threads are still here keep bugging them about it.

That's your "Official response" if your still concerned about it don't use it done deal.

It wouldnt suprise me if trion has decided to not allow any third party programs other then the big ones, if even that.

We need to keep in mind that this is a mmo, but also a shooter, keeping it hack free will be difficult for them, and I get the feeling it will be easier for them if they don't have to distinguish between a insane amount of various graphicaly improving programs.

And keeping hackers out, is ALOT more important then in your general mmo, because they have a very very noticeable impact on other peoples gameplay, especially in pvp.

Then again I am sure trion will give us a statement about it sooner or later, I would definatly stay well clear of most 3rd party programs until such a time, with mabye the exception of programs like fraps.

PvP in defiance sucks ninja invisi bunny shot gunners that's always fun then multiply it by 80% of the players playing. That ruined my pvp experience plus 20 min shadow wars where i cant even get a strategic snipe on. fun fun.

relevance? game is new, balance being a bit out of whack is understandable, and defiance has a much better premise for a balanced pvp then most mmos.

98% of all overlays use the same Directx hooks as Sweetfx in short sweetfx only uses a directx hook all other overlays do more modding to your game than sweetfx. Even steam and Origin ts3 and vent. so it would be harder to detect and doesn't do more than those programs do as it actually does less. And why launch it on steam and Origin if your not going to allow overlays that do the same directx hooking? O_o either way we have an official post and i posted it keep bugging em if you want to just cause issues with using it.
