LOL..of course this is an MMO it is a massive multiplayer online game..what are you smoking?? do you not see the 30+ people doing arks with you? those are all REAL people. there's thousands of people on the server you have freedom of communicating/playing with. seriously, you are sadly mistaken if you think this is not an mmo. xD

its just people have to realize its a different style. not the run of the mill mmorpg. its mmorpg but a third person shooter so mainly people call it an mmotps. third person shooters have a specific format typically, so this is that mainly + more.

join a clan / guild what ever you want to call it and you wont have a problem with not having people to play with im in the M4D clan have been for over a year a few of us about 7 bought the game its extremely fun grouping makes missions more difficult some just plain hard yes the chat is lacking its almost imposible to get others to actually comunicate i was trying for hours LOL just to see if anyone had a purple LMG to trade for a Orange combat shotgun or many other guns i have

ps: it seems LMG's are like the hardest thing to find in the select few vendor locations odd

I see it a persistent, online world version of something like Borderlands. You get to play the game, you get to play with other people, and there's occasionally an event to work on. While it might not be the "RUSH TO LVL 80, GRIND EPICS" that other MMOs are, it has a grind to get weapons and upgrade mods. Plus, you can queue up for PvP, if you feel like jumping into Battlefield when you're tired of Borderlands.

In addition to that, I think a lot of people are putting it off simply because of the early game. Looking at the trailers and etc., it feels like the world bosses will at least ramp up in the latter half. Plus, every one I've seen post has made a comment like, "I haven't even done the instances yet." The earlier ones aren't flashy, but obviously none of us have done the end-game ones.

To me, it's already worth the money spent, because the game will expand with both free and paid updates.

I think that a wonderfull idea completed to 50%, thats for me.
This should be a game like a Rift sci-fi, console support ruined it.

This is definatly a mmo, however trion has clearly forgotten that a mmo should also be a social experience.. why they havnt added a proper chat on pc before releasing is beyond me, I simply cannot comprehend what kind of a mind would make such a foolish decission.

I can only hope that trion steps up to the plate and take responsbility for the rather questionable decissions they've made so far, the game is good as a shooter, but it is not good enough to stay alive on that alone.

Isn't the definition of mmo massively multiplayer online? So this would be a mmo, but yea it is the most lonely one I have ever played.

I'm going to say some things that might be surprising to some people. They might even find it insulting... but it must be said.

Chat Box issues aside (as I'm sure that will be corrected)...

The reason an MMO community falters is NOT because a game lacks any certain feature. The problem is YOU (I mean that in a collective sense.)

See, this is a matter of Communication Behavior. Essentially, what I do is identify communication traits in individual people that leads them into dysfunctional social behaviors - read: anti-social, etc. Used to, MMO's didn't have this problem. Communities simply did not NOT exist. Every MMO had a tight community. There is a reason why.

Since the year 2000, we have enjoyed technology to such a degree that we depend on it to do stuff for us... especially when it comes to communicating with one another. For instance - young people "in love" no longer write out hand-written letters to one another with proper grammar, spelling, and very heart-felt lyrics. No... they send 5 second texts:

"Your eyes are like the fountain of beauty to my soul, and as such, I wish to spend the rest of my own eternity in your loving arms."

    ... Is now...

    "luv u.... lolz"

So basically, to make a long story short... the reason why MMO communities are not what they were once fabled to be, is because more and more people play them who have grown up to learn dysfunctional communication behaviors.

To make friends... you actually have to do stuff... like say hello. On the other side of that coin... they have to actually respond. There is no magical game mechanic that will ever fix people's lack of will to do these simple things.

That, that man, was just...just beautiful. I agree, yesterday I was doing an arkfall with about 70+ people, and multiple people where falling and I was running around reviving them keeping them in the fight. Others just ran past them, whats the point? You are harming the team. Sure the chat is broken, but that will be fixed. Communities in MMO's these days aren't as great as people think, in WoW all it is used for is spamming "LFG" (even though there is a built in feature) "WTS". Ultima Online, had the best community, and I don't think it will ever be replicated.

This game though, is very much an MMO.
