How weapon rating upgrading works?

I know this is a really noob question, but I checked the wikia and google and all the infos are from 2013, there is not much actualized info of this game (not easy to find at least)

I had a FRC SAW, weapon rating 38, it was one of the first weapons I got.

After mastering it, and puting in on the mod menú aside of the add mod option there was another option that said "upgrade weapon". I upgraded it and the weapon rating increased to 138? That's what is says instead of 38.

But aside of the rating, I didn't see stats increasing at all.

Thing is I tried to upgrade it again, to see if it increases something, but the "upgrade option" doesn't appear any more.

So I hope someone can explain me how the "upgrade option" in the mod menú works, what does and when appears and when not.

Upgrading is important as your weapons do more damage the higher their ego is.
Your SAW should've more damage with lvl 138 than with lvl 38.

This option appears in the menu:
1. When you are at least 100 levels above the current ego of your weapon
2. When that weapon is NOT equipped in any of your loadouts.

To level up your weapon again, you would need to be at least level 238 and you can't have it equipped in any loadout.
But be careful: Upgrading costs you Arkforge. Pay attention on how much you have and how much you earn.
I would only level up my best weapons and in your ego range, I'd just look for other better gear, rather than upgrading the ego of my weapon.

This is a pain though, I hope they some day add some "unequip" functionality cross load-outs. Having that legendary shield equipped on all loadouts creates for a tedious process when you want to upgrade. Other than that the rating upgrade process is pretty smooth, I always upgrade the minute there's 100 levels difference for that nice damage or efficiency upgrade. And indeed, I only upgrade epic or legendary, below is most of the time not worth it and better to equip something more recent.

Thanks. I guess I wasted some Arkforge then, didn't even know what it was until you mentioned it, I didn't even know where I got it LOL
