Trying to figure a few things out...

So... There are a few things/stats I'm not sure I understand yet and I'm hoping some of you might have figured it out.

On items: Any weapon or shield there is a number next to the picture of it. 70, 119, and so on. I assume this is the items power level, yes? But what I don't get is, what's the point of it? I've seen Bolt action sniper rifles with 70 "power level" and others with over 100, and the stats are all the same, same damage, same crit, same reload and so on. No difference in stats at all... What's the point? What does it mean?

Also on items, there is a... for lack of a better understanding, a progress bar. new items start at 0 and max out at some crazy high end value of like 700k to 1 million. The longer you use the item the higher that value gets. I'm assuming that the bar/value is an indication of how proficient you are with that weapon? I've maxed it on a few weapons so far. But again, what's the point of it? I had thought that it was for adding modifications to weapons. That you couldn't mod a weapon until you maxed that bar out or some variation of that. But I have found weapons that you can add mod slots too even if that bar reads 0... So again, anyone have info here?

Lastly... How do you get reputation to spend at the reputation merchant trucks? There are two (that I know of) but I've been unable to figure this out. I remember people saying in beta it hadn't been added into game yet. Is this still true? Surely not... right? Any info here would also be greatly valued.

Thanks to any who can answer any of these questions

I can only answer the second of your 3 questions. The weapons individually lvl up and once maxed out get a bonus of some sort my LMG got 5% quicker reload. The thing to note though is you only get weapon skill lvls if your weapon is lvling up. If you are using a maxed out weapon you will not get any weapon skill.

(Italics and Bolding to make it less confusing between weapon skills and individual weapon lvls.)

You should know that the bonus from a leveled weapon randomizes every time you login and changing instances (which makes zero sense).

Not sure on the weapon level, I was led to believe there was the smallest of bonuses even if you cant notice it. But the reputation can be earnt after a certain ego level of which I believe was 250 but as I only got to 242 or something in the beta and my pre-order still hasnt arrived someone else should verify this. Hope that helps

Keep in mind, "levels" in Defiance go to 5000. So the difference between a weapon with ego 1 and ego 100 is (in other games) the difference between a level 1 and a level 2 (roughly). So, not a big difference. The quality of the weapon (common, uncommon, rare, very rare, unique) also makes a large difference. Lilkewise, two weapons that are the same quality, but vastly different EGO, with the same stats, may have other bonuses, like mod slots already unlocked, or nano effects. But again, the difference between weapons of level 70 and 100 is probably going to be un-noticable. Keep a level 1 weapon until you get up to ego 1000 or 2000 and see if you still think they are the same.

As for the reputations, yes, it's for doing 'daily' quests from the faction heads. You'll get them, eventually, you are still only just beginning.

    Keep shooting.

Well I'm 411. I got a message from my EGO saying that I had unlocked reputation crap and that I should look for the merchants. I only know of the one at the Crater bar and the one at Shondu's Consulate. Both of which say I have 0 reputation. I've ran EVERY single quest in the starting area and Madera and unlocked the bonus's exploration/completion outfits/hats.

But I don't see any other quests popping up at either location. Where do I find these daily quests that give reputation?

You get rep from completing contracts and the cash needed to buy weapons from those specific merchants
