I tried putting an assault scope on but nothing happened. How do I get rid of the zoom scope that comes with it?
Stabilization Scope is the only one that does not add a scope.
Assault Scope - Aim Accuracy (Zooms without obscuring vision)
Commando Scope - Aim Accuracy (Mid power scope)
Stabilization Sight - Accuracy, Movement Accuracy (Does not add a scope)
Tactical Scope - Aim Accuracy (High power scope)

Pretty sure he has a Heavy Assault Carbine or the Faction version.
Sadly you are stuck with a scope.
Does the it look like this:
If so, you got the AR that has a scope built in. Sorry. (Unless you can learn to master it, then cool. I suggest you use the mag mod that lets you fire 3 per click; that way, you get more crit hits per shot.) Reference: http://www.defiancedata.com/weapons.php?m=6
Had this issue also, stuck with the red triangle like scope no matter which one I put on. The VBI TAcC Assault Rifle only has crosshairs, but has burst. The EMC XAR 22 also has crosshairs only. Wish we had an option to put on a scope that shows only crosshairs like the ones above.

Use Commando Scope on it, it will change the scope to a larger FoV. Scopes that provide "no scope" does not change your scope, meaning the default one will be left intact.
I suggest using 3-Burst mag mod too. Shoot from the hip at close range and through the scope at distance. Single Minded and Overload perks will reduce the reload time and compensate for low mag size this way. Add Pumped Up perk so that frequent reloads would recharge your Overcharge power. TimeOut perk should help extending the Overcharge, but it doesn't work for me at all, so I can't recommend it.
