Never liked LMG's in any game. My AR's get me through just fine.

Although I may try LMG's soon.

I find that the LMG is a monster for anything at close to mid range provided you are using ADS (Aiming Down Sights) and make good use of Overcharge to remove all recoil (not Bloom or Cone of Fire however). It's bad at long ranges and it's hip-fire is atrocious because the cone of fire becomes massive and when moving you'll be lucky to hit a Mutant Minigunner/Grenadier at point-blank range.

The AR on the other hand, allows for more precise aiming, especially at ranges, the hip-fire accuracy is respectable enough to where it's actually viable in a pinch, as using ADS will severely limit your field of view and slow you down, leaving you vulnerable to flanking attacks and even grenades/rockets headed your way due to reduced visibility and slowed down movement. The reload time for the AR is also much shorter than the LMG and less likely to leave you in a bind if say, a Raider Blitzer rounds a corner and points his SMG right at your face.

I used to love the AR... until I got my first LMG. It's true that the AR is a bit more versatile, but I'm addicted to dumping loads of bullets at medium range just just vaporizing 2-3 opponents before needing to reload. Probably depends on your power setup as well. I find LMG a perfect complement to the Decoy since I have plenty of time to reload/reposition while the enemies are distracted.

So far I'm liking the Light Machine Guns.

I see everyone running around with Assault Rifles, but maybe I got a lucky drop or something but I don't see the advantage of any AR I've come across compared to a Frontier SAW. The F-Saw has about 30% more damage, almost 3 times the clip size, slightly slower fire rate which lets you just keep that gun on the sweet spots.

Is there something I'm missing when comparing the two? Some unwritten traits to them?
To be honest the AR needs a major buff every weapon is better in my opinion.

Swung towards LMG with Defiance and have a decent AR as a secondary.

Coupled with thick skinned and Overcharge EGO I'm turning into quite the Tank.

I had a good purple AR for awhile I was using since I wound up having 64 in the clip but still over 100dmg less than my LMG. I switched back to my LMG because I needed the sustained fire for an area.... man I don't know why I ever thought I found an AR that matches my frontier. There is some assault carbine AR I want to try though as I heard it is very good, but rare.

There is also a high damage semi-auto AR I am thinking about getting from the Toolwork Rep Store. Do they mean single shot or burst fire when they say semi-auto?

I've to an FRC SAW LMG and a VBI TACC Assault Rfile.
The LMG is a great weapon, but I tend to prefer the Assault Rifle I just wish it had a larger clip, 30 is a little light.

Toss in an extended mag, blue will put that up to 45.

I like the FRC LMGs but usually I go with Frontier SAWs.. they seem to be easier to control during sustained fire, especially with a good recoil mod.

If you look around vendors (including the spawned vendors) you can find LMGs to buy. There is a vendor next to Port Stintson that sells stock Frontier SAWs.

I go through a lot of them skilling up and always keep a couple extra with no XP for when I cap out one I'm using.

I don't like the EMC LMG though.

For ARs.. the heavy ones are decent if you can find a good clip mod.

For regular questing I prefer AR with a flame nano but for Arkfalls, especially the major bug ones I use a SAW with a scope. I also use the Power Shot Skill so when my magazine is about to run out I trigger my Power Shot and the lmg is automatically reloaded and dealing extra damage. On Arkfalls against firing at both crystals and the bigger bugs I don't notice a huge bloom effect. I'm thinking of making an LMG my main weapon though, because th magazine size is pretty significant.
