I don't get this Irzu thing, if it's just their "god" then it's just a belief thing why would Irisa blindly follow something in her head that isn't real?

If it is real what is it? Does that mean their god thing is a real thing? Or are they being manipulated by an outside force? Maybe some other alien thingy..

    Three options:
    1. It's really a god. ( I hope they don't go down this path, scifi and fantasy need to remain apart unlike BSG.)
    2. It's some sort of higher being, perhaps an ancient Irathient who became energy (like the Ancients in Stargate) and gets its kicks by messing with people.
    3. It's the Kaziri, plain and simple. An AI with a wide reach that wants to complete some tasks.

That crazy doctor is one of my favourites on the show.

    she suffers from burton's-batman syndrome.
so named because of the first known case which effected the actor michael keaton on the set of the original batman. symptoms are mainly localized to the neck and shoulders, causing total paralysis. but can also limit muscle movement of the mouth and eyes.

this blight has been reported in many cases within the hollywood movie monster and super hero communities.
the only known cure for limited capability make up is of course high priced CGI.

A few things that intrigued me:

    1) Stahma showing her true colors, and Alak seeing the real mastermind behind the Tarr family

    2) Amanda doing Adreno drugs (I think it is Adreno?)

    3) Irisa's Nolan daydream at the end of the episode.

    4) IF Irisa has an AI inside of her, then what is that AI's purpose?

    5) The desperation of Datakk in the prison. As someone has said in this thread, Stahma is controlling him via sex.

Stahma has always controlled Datak with sex. I don't think she comes from very noble stock.... She's corrupt and evil and I like her though.... One of the more interesting characters on the show..

Being in the UK, I had to use a 3rd party website to watch this. Surely this is not beneficial for SyFy or the show, since my viewing did not help their viewing figures.

I'm left a little... disappointed... by this first episode after the first season. A lot of the characterisation seems to have faded, I think anyone entering Defiance at this episode would leave with a negative impression. I'll keep watching though.

I'll say this much about the season two premiere... it was much better than the season one premiere ever was.

    IMHO of course.

I don't think Amanda was taking Blue Devil at the end because it seemed to mellow her out. Adreno is synthesized adrenal that gets you up and going. And the idea of it is probably more potent compared to real life stimulants.

It also showed Stahma giving Amanda drugs when they met when Amanda gave Stahma her cut of profits from the Need Want. With the happenings between Season 1 to Season 2 Stahma probably saw how Amanda was stressed out about all the changes with the town and her sister going missing and offered (ever so nicely like she does) something that could help her relax. And boom now she has her claws in Amanda to control her when needed. Im willing to bet something is going to happen and Stahma is going to cut Amanda off from her drug fix to persuade her to do something.

Stahma is controlling a lot of people it seems.

I don't think anyone knows the true purpose of the AI in Irisa but it has taken on a form of her younger self and refers to itself as Irzu the Irathients main Entity they worship. Its connected to 'The Kaziri' which is some kind of Ultimate Weapon. The set of keys (which are now both in Irsia) make up the Kelavar which work with the Kaziri. Irisa since she was a child always had the 'Silver Knot' key in her and the Gold Knot was somewhere in Defiance.

The Kaziri and everything connected with it is so powerful and sought out that Indo-sapiens spys became integrated in some of the highest and most respected roles of the town of Defiance just to try to find and locate it. This force that's behind the Indo-sapiens spys is also powerful enough to have the ability to have a Volge Army attack the town of Defiance. Along with this the Earth Republic or at least organizations within it are looking for the Kaziri along with the Cult of the Devouring Mother.

Irisa is known as the Devouring Mother. She has both the Gold and Silver Knot keys in her that make up the Kelavar which work with the Kaziri. Just recently in the newest cross over episode mission had the Cult looking for Male Irathients to "join the Devouring Mother" and that "the Devouring Mother seeks her companion". Just like how Irisa was tested to see if she was compatible with the Silver Knot when she was younger Im pretty sure the Cult were doing tests to these Irathient Males to see if they were compatible to something so the Devouring Mother has a companion. So there is a male counter part to Irisa somewhere. Together make up the full key to unlock the Kaziri perhaps? Or they give birth to the "Angle of Death".

It defiantly reminds me of Ghost Busters 1 with 'are you the Key Master are you the Gate Keeper' kind of thing. And together they release Gozer. But in Defiance its the Kaziri instead.

Cult of the Devouring Mother is looking to be like the Cult of Gozerian.
