I only get stuff like inventory space. Also, I'm not going to buy arkforge if it's screwing me over. It would validate the whole strategy. Not to mention, most recent updates from nade-gate onwards, have been screw jobs. Why spend?

I still can't get enough arkforge. I've finally upgraded my shields ego lvl and upped it to orange, but so what?

I still need to lvl my BMG. Not to mention 4 other loadout slots.

-All Im doing is arkforge hunting and not 'playing'.
-Ego goes up as I hunt for arkforge making my other loadouts harder to upgrade to my level.
-I'm better off dumping stuff and getting new stuff closer to my level.
-Playing normally barely yields enough AF to lvl 1 loadout
-Doing anything that doesn't give AF makes things harder.

Do not upgrade rarity.
Do not upgrade purple weapons/shields.
Do not upgrade orange weapons/shields.

ONLY upgrade green or blue items that you actively use all the time.
Keep any perfect rolls you find for purple/oranges. Sell the rest.
Buy T2 lock boxes with all of your key codes from events.

If you do that you should have zero issues keeping stuff upgraded as long as you run the occasional major ark fall.

I think that you should keep the weapons that you really like close to you and upgrade them as you go.
Let me give you an example, if you have the chance to find lets say a blue Double Crit Woulfhound with other great stats (those varie a lot from player to player) and you are EGO 1500, it would be a waste of Arkforge to upgrade the rarity of that weapon because you have to spend 700 arkforge just for the 2 upgrades of rarity and because you will be leveling your EGO so fast you would have to spend 50 Arkforge every 100 EGO levels.
The best thing to do would be to keep that weapon BLUE for as long as it takes untill you EGO leveling stops progressing that fast and you would be spending on 8 AF evey 100 EGO levels. When you get to 4500 (just an example) you would have lots of Arkforge to easily upgrade to OJ.

About shields it is a waste of Arkforge because you don`t get the OJ bonus when upgrading the shields , the same with some faction weapons like the Gunslinger weaps. Overtkill had one thread explaining that.

I am not sure if upgrading a shield will give you the extra armor. I think it only reduces the delay of the shield. Even if it does give you the extra ablative armor, it is not worth spending 50 ark forge every 100 ego levels to keep it at your level. You will get more utility out of a blue shield you keep at your level.

And yes, you should be using blue rarity weapons. While an orange gun is better, you will bankrupt yourself trying to keep it upgraded. Blue rarity weapons are more than sufficient, and offer the best bang for the buck, ark forge wise. Just make sure they are fully modded, with the blue T3 mods when you can find them.

I think upgrading a good shield and maintaining it is the only good use of AF at low levels. My EU toon pulled a Respark IV at about 900 and upgrading it to OJ and maintaining it has been really helpful to me.
