Why Keep Gear Rating Close to Your EGO - This Thread Helped Me

I was at 3K EGO when I had a new gun. It was a Final Caress from the Colony Courtship event. I was still really new at PvP then, and I thought my new gun was doing OK damage. I was finally able to kill peeps at PvP and I was happy. I continued to PvP but I never upgraded the gun, or any of my other gears.

Then, at around 3.3k -3.4k EGO, I started to notice that I wasn't getting the same fire power. Noticed the same thing happening with other guns. Never really found out why 'till I was at 4k EGO, when I started to visit the forums... and ultimately found this post.

I love how this thread actually helped me, I made a video about it. Thanks!

It is no necro. At least not the bad kind. Still a helpful advise from Shakk and replying to it bumps it for other beginners.

Personally, I don't find EGO rating to be effective at all. I'm 1800 EGO and almost every match I get completely destroyed. It doesn't matter if I get the first shot, people kill me almost instantly. It seems to me high EGO player just dominate lower ranks.

    This is pretty much true.

Mostly because at low ego you don't have the correct perks and/or correct gear customization. High ego players have all perks at their disposal and can spend hundreds of hours getting the perfect gear optimized to kill.

So yea... if you are not close to the cap you are at a disadvantage from the start, as you probably should be considering how much time and effort they put into acquiring that gear.

This sums it perfectly. It's more like thousands of hours though.

    Kudos

I'm glad he did resurrect this. It's a good topic that might have easily gone unnoticed.

How's the air up there on that high horse?

Hope I never do. I was under the impression that only one's in-game ego is affected with more exposure to Defiance. Not really a warm welcome for Daily420 was it? Considering it was his/her first post a bit of slack might have been appropriate. At over 4300 posts you must have seen and read it all at least twice by now. Next time you feel the need to point that out to all of us noobs when we discover something new to us or look for help on something just remember that not everyone has seen and read it all. You're in a position to actually be of help to us and possibly even guide us in a direction that would benefit you and everyone else. I guarantee it would be more appreciated than condescension.

Daily420 is in Cronus which is one of the biggest clans in the game across all platforms. I've seen and read certain things literally thousands of times. You're a minority in the sense of listening to vets instead of making the assumption that you know everything and want everything handed to you on a silver platter. If you have any questions please PM me and I will help/guide you personally without the belittling and berating.
