OP, the main problem that's still preventing us playing the game is that when this incredibly slow download does complete it fails to install. Can we get an official response on this common error please? Cheers.

Also, why don't you use Steam servers with a basic build and let those of us on it update from you from that?

Download speeds for the client are highly variable. I can get 2MB/s for several minutes, and pulled down half the client in half an hour. Then it stops. It looks like a proxy is blacklisting my IP address, or something similar. If I pause the download for a few minutes and then start it again, it goes at full speed. If I leave my PC unattended, I eventually get 'download error' and it all seems to break down.

I assume you're walking away from your PC while waiting for the download? Ive been writing emails with the client displayed on the side of my screen, and found that the apparent 'install failure' is actually a symptom of an aborted download. If you watch it while doing other things (like I'm doing now), and you pause it for a few minutes when the download rate hits 0, this seems to help.

Of course, I have no guarantee that I'll have a valid download at the end of the process.

And yeah, using Steam to deploy the full client instead of the tiny little stub - that would have been smart.

I've already posted my SpeedNet test, now I wish to post what happens once you have waited a couple of days for the download to complete.

This first one I took shows the client patcher near completion. By this stage I had been downloading for days and, after pumping 10GB in folder "51", it was just completing putting the same amount (and a little more) into folder "52".

    DeFi Patcher Speed.jpg

Then 20 minutes away from completion I get this joy-full little message.

    DeFi Patcher Error.jpg

After cursing my luck and doing as the error message suggests, I restart the client and begin the "Update" again. I dread the next few minutes as I feel a little DeJa Vu coming over me ...... I couldn't be sure, but I'm sure this happened to me once before when it was working on folder "51".

So there are two (2) problems here slow speeds/failed patching.

The images don't look so clear until you blow them up but once you do please notice the Client Patcher version, this has remained the same build number since I first started.
If it's a lack of man power then I am more than willing to look at the code or failing that my six y/o niece is quick proficient in Quick Basic, she could whip something up in no-time.

So it always just fails to complete then. I can't stare at it for 8 hours or more pausing it if it ever hits 0, but thanks for the information. I don't know how I'm ever gonna get this installed right now. I tried changing DNS servers as well. I uninstalled and removed the service. I tried Europe and US options. No alternative source either it seems.

EDIT: I had a closer look and this thing is receiving data much faster than it's claiming. So my only problem seems to be it dropping carrier and not resuming or not being able to complete for some reason.

What are the minimum connection speed needed to play the game with out LAG?

I stay in South Africa and our connection speeds to US suck.

    Platform: PC
    Location: South Africa, Pretoria
Internet Provider: Sainnet / Afrihost / Saix

I have done tests from 3 different ISP's/DSL Connections:
    2Mb DSL:
    Ping 330ms
    DL 1.01Mb
    UL 0.32Mb

    4Mb DSL:
    Ping 319ms
    DL 1.57Mb
    UL 0.34Mb

    10Mb DSL:
    Ping 369ms
    DL 2.39Mb
    UL 0.36Mb

    Thanks
    Hendrik
