Destiny Beta vs. Defiance in my opinion

Take a generous helping of Halo, a cup of Borderlands, some Mass Effect and a splash of Defiance - slam it into a Kitchen Aid on Puree and what do you get?
Oh, You get the "Big Bad Trion Killer!!"
    DESTINY!

    YEAH YEAH YEAH.
I am playing the little beta thing on XBOX and whoop-dee-doo.
It has a few decent features but I am staying home so far.

Sure, Defiance can learn from Destiny - but the opposite can also be said.

    Reaction.....?

I do not own any of the consoles. Sadly I cannot say either way.

If your playing on the old Xbox i'm guessing you're not really playing Destiny.

    ????

okay your opinion is based off a few days beta compared to a game a year old.

    imo

the beta performance wise puts Trion to shame,

granted the earth level was limited but there still places I couldn't explore due to enemies being so high.

I played both version of the beta on x1 and 360 360 has performance issues it felt if the framerate kept dropping. x1 version felt smooth if it wasn't for the logo in the right corner id say it was near perfect.

loading screens do feel long hopefully that's different in the final product

I first played the x1 version then I played the 360 version my toons were there and my progress was the same I was delighted about that because now I may be getting 2 versions of the game.

I didn't like the map of planet being based on one area maybe that be different in the full game

overall id give the beta( which is a small part of the game) 7 out 10

I like defiance I played it from day1, I've suffered through countless bugs and server issues

defiance has a little over a month to get it sorted or the game wont last another year on consoles

Trion comes up with disappointments alot though so I ain't expecting much

I'll address the original poster here, but first, to QipQip:

Having tried the Destiny beta on both PS4 and PS3, I can tell you flat-out that there is almost no difference whatsoever in the gameplay between the next gen and current gen consoles. The only real difference is a mild dulling graphically, which is almost entirely a matter of (a) resolution and (b) how the lighting works.

    That being said:

Yes, I'd agree that we have two games here that will be endlessly compared because they *seem* similar in intent and gameplay, but that comparison is not entirely valid. Their broadest goals might be similar, but their execution and focus are quite different.

Having played the Destiny Alpha and the Destiny Beta (including Iron Banner PVP), it seems that Destiny is primarily a shooter with MMO elements being mostly a secondary if not tertiary concern. The game plays smoothly, feels good in terms of the gameplay, and is relatively balanced (which has resulted in a LOT of arguing on the Destiny forums over nerfing EVERYTHING because of PVP and how EVERYONE seems to get their *** kicked from time to time). I'm intrigued by the story that we've seen and what has been hinted at in the Grimoire Cards that we're able to actually read at this point. (My Grimoire Score is 510 right now, and a ton of cards are "redacted," basically.)

Destiny isn't particularly varied in gameplay, though. It's a shooter, through and through, whether it is during a side mission, regular mission, strike, or PVP. I'm hoping for some other modes, but that appears to be it so far. What it does, it does well, but it doesn't do a lot. It also isn't a particularly social game for an MMO, if it's even right to call it that, as communication is limited to fireteams, and there are extreme limitations on how many players can be in the same environment at once before the game creates a new instance for another handful of players. There are no giant events like we have in Defiance.

That said, Defiance has suffered from a plethora of glitches, bugs, and server issues over the last "year plus." Its story doesn't feel particularly epic, leaving the most interesting stuff to the television series. However, it has kept up a steady stream of new content, even in only small doses, and it was more varied that Destiny appears to be out of the gate. In Destiny, it's "roaming PVE, regular mission PVE, ***-kicker PVE, PVP, or the rare open world event, still with limited players together." On Day 1, Defiance already had Arkfalls, Hotshots, Rampages, Time Trials, etc. and now has Sieges, Incursions, arenas, etc. Defiance is also more social in its construction, even on PS3, where people with mics are few and far between.

Defiance has shown longevity, evolution, and variety, with a third person shooter at its core and community elements not necessarily front and center but just a little off to the side. Destiny's beta has shown it to be a first person shooter with variety only in that realm, but a rather fun and solid experience in Beta form. Only time will tell as to its longevity, evolution, and whether it is truly able to handle the load of players when the game releases in September, even compared to tomorrow's goal of "breaking the game" with the 5 p.m. ET event they've arranged.

Me, I'll be playing both, and I'll enjoy the hell out of both, but the more I play the Destiny Beta, the more I think that the one thing I'll stop doing pretty soon after Destiny's launch will likely be the constant comparing of both.

Destiny is made by bungie which also made the Halo series games. Having played Halo in the past, it was like playing Halo on ps3. Your character moves like a robot and lacks fluidity. If I wanted to play a game like that, I'd go buy a xbox 360 and play Halo. I'm happy with Defiance even if it has more hiccups than me after eating at Los Amigos.

hmm...lag and hard freezes...suprising on a fps but not unexpected. destiny can be chocked up as yet another fps shooter with a 2 week shelf life. just wish these game companies would call it what it is...its a DEMO not a beta. Beta would imply an in game feed back system so we could cut the living ****e out of it like you are SUPPOSED to do in betas.

    Sidebar:

Something I've noticed with Destiny and with Killzone: Shadow Fall before it on PS4. For some reason, playing an FPS (rather than a Third Person Shooter) on PS4 doesn't give me the motion sickness feeling that I always got with FPS games on PS3 or Xbox 360 and sometimes with earlier gen games. Anyone have any idea why?
