I had problems getting in. I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but I decided to try to get into character creation and it let me. After dinking around with it for a bit, I backed out and was able to get into the game.

Same here, but I found something awesome last week: Kroger "churned" style ice cream is lactose free. I've been eating ice cream for the first time in probably a decade without ever needing a pill, and it actually tastes like ice cream, unlike all those rice and soy abominations out there. Might give it a try.
Apparently, almost anything listed as "churned" style is lactose free these days.

The first couple of years, Rift was one of the most tightly run MMOs I've played for extended periods. It's sad and very telling, that now their performance is so prone to hamster wheel jokes.
