adding a way to infinity upgrade rarity in a game where one of the major selling points is loot chasing was dumb to begin with

Our priority is to make Defiance the best game possible, and after reviewing the data we see fewer players purchasing lockboxes with both our in-game currency and Bits. And as we dig through this data from the past 2 months we realize the mistake we made: our introduction of essentially unlimited rarity upgrades removed the item chase from the game for many of our players.
Well, Trion, for me it's more viable to upgrade instead of purchasing lock boxes because 99.9% of what comes out of a lock box - including tier 4, is vendor trash. Make lock boxes the better option instead of nerfing rarity upgrades, because after the nerf, what's left for me but the garbage? Why would I "chase" garbage gear?

I hope that is how they look at it.

I have plans for some of the crap ive been holding on to

That's been a cry from the player base since launch. Obviously, not one Trion gives a damn about.

This sort of defeats the object of upgrading rarity - who's going to bother doing it if they can't get a legendary out of it?

They might as well remove the mechanic all together.

they never should have added the option anyway.... being able to upgrade the rarity of any item to the max defeats the whole point of having rare items since they are no longer rare as you can turn any item into one

Either their lead Devs are the most inexperienced I have ever seen to not have realized players would upgrade to orange with the current system, or the bean counters at Trion stepped in because Bit sales are down.

Honestly, after the past 15 months, it's an equal toss as to which it could be.

If anything, upgrading rarity should INCREASE bit sales - after all, it takes a chunk of arkforge to do it and it takes forever to just collect it.

I think they may be a little bit short-sighted here... I wonder what their sales figures will be like after the change.

They've effectively made arkforge pretty useless.

gotta love how when ya click on the discuss in forums link at the bottom of the article it takes ya to the archage site....hmmm guess they'd rather promote yet another new game than fix the ones they already have running
