They've just said in the livestream that the EGO Cap will return with the Silicon Valley update next week. They said in the livestream that they believe the new cap is going to be 5900, so only +4 from the current max of 5886, despite there being new pursuits for Silicon Valley.
This is to allow people who don't want to do EVERY single pursuit to catch up to the max anyway, they said.
I've mixed feelings on this cap. I like not having to do every pursuit (like PVP and races that I don't enjoy) to reach the top score

Question for those who were at the cap last time around before the cap was removed: If you were over 5000 before mathematically, but the cap was 5000, did you get credit for all of your extra EGO when the cap was removed, or did that extra EGO just vanish on you?

I'm glad for this, because I don't think I can stomach more PvP.
I just hope that if you have gear over EGO 5800, you'll be able to upgrade it to an even 5900.
