    The way it is now, yes. The way it was before, no.
    Ego progression was introduced in dlc 5 to make weapons obsolete unless upgraded with arkforge. It is one of the ways Trion monetizes the game now that it is F2P.

    I was never overly bothered by the scaling - I just plugged away until I stopped dying as often.

    Sensible load-outs will even have you starting to win events when you've barely hit 1k.

    Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge...

    It's called horizontal progression. Game companies should try it sometime. Or a hybrid of it. So that top level is 4x beginner level (or even 2X). It would work well in a game like this.
