Trion servers have been hacked before and Glyph is new. The amount of people with hacked accounts seems to be above average, so you can doubt their ability to keep account information safe.

When it happend before the usual answer also was "it's you, not us". Pretty much the same answer you got when the lag in Defiance started: "it's your ISP, our servers are just fine".

It's not always 100% on our end, this is Trion were talking about, so it never hurts to be safe. Rather that then having strange amounts being deducted for no reason at all, no?

This has happened to me too. They attempted to make 2 purchased of the archeum founder's pack.

I have changed my password and removed payment info.

Obviously someone has stolen their account database. The fact that they have said nothing is a joke.

You might want to check that with your own clan mate? He's one of the victims if i read correctly:

It's not some hacker stripping your toons and leaving an empty account, you get billed for real money. One guy couldnt even pay his rent because of this. Biggest post on ArcheAge forum:

Was reading a bit more on the ArcheAge thread, and someone reported they got hacked even though they're using a fresh NEW email for the game! That, to me, is super-scary.

CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD NOW! REMOVE ANY CHARGE CARDS FROM YOUR ACCOUNT NOW!

Yeah I don't use the password I had here anywhere else either, so its pretty obvious that their db was compromised (or some person/group has figured out a way to exploit their web systems).

The sad thing is that if they have no evidence, then it could easy happen again after changing passwords, so remove payment details as well as stated above.

Plus most formatting doesnt actually delete the data, it simple removes the directions to the data (think of removing all road signs and maps to a place, the place still exists, its just really hard to get to), this data can return with the right conditions (not so common these days, but used to happen). Always safer to buy a new HDD.
Yes, and there is also malware that "infects" your BIOS, your router's firmware is notoriously unsafe, etc., so with that argument you'd best buy a new PC, plus there's the governments spying out all your data, so you'd best stay offline anyway. Besides, consumer anti-virus and firewall software is more of potential risk than solution to the kind of malware you are talking about it. After buying that new HDD that guys is just going to get reinfected anyway if he's being targeted by that.

On a more reasonable level, the most common case of "account hacked" is a case of social engineering. If you log in to paypa1.com you're in trouble, no firewall/antivirus/new HDD will help you there.

If you get brute forced and customers get unauthorized purchases, post it in the launcher, not in News. A forum poster described what I had in mind:

It is NOT DIFFICULT TO PREVENT massive brute force password retries. There are several different highly effective ways to limit "hundreds of millions of such attempts" from "well over a million different IP addresses".

Failure to implement ANY method of limiting brute force login cracks is entirely Trion's fault.

But hey, better to blame the customers right? I'm sure they don't understand.
