My worry is that they aren't announcing anything while all the other networks already have announced the complete line up for this next coming year. They are also pushing two new shows (neither I am interested in) with no word on the two they have now. The two new shows look far more expensive than Dominion and Defi put together - so it's not money. Remember Defi is sponsored by Dodge so it can't be a money thing they seem to have other avenues besides sci-fi.

Syfy airs content on a seasonal basis and Defiance is not a Fall Season series so there's no reason for them to make a decision about renewing the series for a third season. Neither Ascension nor Z Nation looked like particularly expensive productions from what I saw in the trailers either. That's not to say that Syfy will or won't renew Defiance for a third season. I'm just not concerned with the fact that it hasn't said anything to date about it.

So in the final episode Irisa's god destroys the world and Votan and Human have to start all over again.
While in the game all your Ego, weapons, arkforge, keys, script, and salvage disappear and you have to start all over again.
Oh, that's already happening in the Game.

Ok, couple of crazy ideas here.

Irisa’s “god” winds up destroying the world in the last scene of the season – essentially cancelling the show. The game update on the 2nd is actually a server shutdown, despite what Trion has stated about it in other threads, to coincide with the world of Defiance being destroyed.

Why it could be possible?
Defiance’s ratings dropped big time after the pilot aired last year. Unfortunately, SyFy had already renewed it for a second season. Going into the season everyone involved knew Season 2 would be its last. At the same time Defiance the game sold poorly and is a financial failure. So, in order to kill 2 birds with one stone they destroy the world in the show AND have an epic, dark and unexpected ending to the show. How often do the good guys fail in entertainment?

Why it isn’t happening?
Why would they have put all of the effort into making the game change to F2P? Unless it was an elaborate misdirect.

One last thought – If the world is destroyed in the show it could take a couple of weeks before the full effect is complete, but once it begins it can’t be stopped. So the second to last scene the world is triggered to be destroyed and the last scene is two weeks later with Nolan arriving on the beaches of Antarctica with the rest of the surviving Defiance characters in tow. He looks down at his Antarctica post card and says, “We finally made it kid” He shields his eyes as he looks into the sunset and the show winks out as the world ends. The game server update on the 2nd is an update to show the effects of the end of the world on the sky and environment. The game will “live” for these two weeks in continuously deteriorating conditions before the server shuts down as the world ends.

Just my crazy ideas.

I am not liking the show all that much, way to much drama and not enough action. The thing with kenya was telegraphed so far out I sensed trion must have had a hand in that episode due to the recycled content. Nolan talks about fighting the volge but that was just a one off, we are fighting the volge every day and there doesn't seem to be an end to any of it.

Maybe JJ abrahms or steven spielberg can help make season 3 better.

I would actually like this to be the way the game and show ends.
I would respect that a lot more than death by nerfing.

I think you may want to try and remember what other shows were sponsored by dodge. pretty sure they didn't make it past a season, 2 at the most
