So far so good, Defiance season 2 ratings

Too many decent shows get cancelled too early, so after some searching, I found these results for Defiance season 2.

So far it's lower than last year, but not by much, so hopefully it'll be renewed for another season.

For comparisons: The first season of Defiance averaged a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.09 million viewers.
So far for season 2, it's averaging 0.47 for the 18-49 demographic.

Not by much? It's down 35% in the key demo and down 24% overall. That's not the kind of thing you want to see after you've increased the show's budget.

I doubt anyone at Syfy is popping corks on champagne over those numbers, but it might be good enough to get renewed. It probably depends on what new shows they have waiting and the numbers of other shows in that timeslot on other nights and on other cable channels.

At first, the show propped the game up

Now the game is so bad that it's dragging the show down.

Oh well, I'm actually excited to see the season 2 finale, it's probably the last new episode of Defi that there will be.

I have to be honest, I haven't been blown away by Season 2 - I'm tired of half of it focusing on the Tarr family.

They must get out there and fight some Volge, or something!

I'm personally enjoying Season Two much more than the first. Pending the season finale and whether or not it completely drops the ball, I'd be completely ready for Season Three -- whereas I wasn't sure if I'd tune in again at the end of S1. In the future, I don't know if I'd like these epic story arcs like the one involving the Kaziri. Defiance always feels like it's at its best when it focuses on smaller stories within this unique community. Like a sci-fi version of Bonanza.

The game hasn't changed much, but the show has degenerated into a (to me) mostly boring soap, nothing like the action packed pilot it started off with. So let's say neither is doing the other a service at this point. But since they didn't really take the cross media thing very far anyway I doubt it has much of an impact either way.

I'm sure there will be a season 3.
Season 4 is up in the air though if the viewership drops the same amount as it did this season.

Just know that TV viewership isn't the whole story considering how many people watch shows online now a days. which isn't tracked publicly unfortunately.

It's science fiction - it should have grand themes. A solar system has been destroyed, a world has been invaded, billions have died. But you want small stories about small people?

    And where are the volge?

Just check ratings of other Syfy shows, and you will see that Defiance is their highest rated. But 0.4 is really too low.
