Reading one of those "another greedy F2P scam" rage posts can be both funny and upsetting in equal measures. It's like watching grade-Z movies: trying so hard to be serious and unique that makes you laugh at every scene, yet when the final credits starts to roll leaving you with sad thoughts about mental state of people creating such shtako - not to mention time you just wasted to watch it.
But, hey! It's boring here at work so I decided to waste some of my time to point out glaring flaws in your logic, dear OP. Not that it will be anything new. Every existing F2P game out there must have dozens of similar threads. Weekly.
I can only assume that these are your first steps in hostile world of "online gaming", so learn this:
nothing is for free. You either have to invest your time or your money. And you need to answer yourself if the experience is worth such investment.
Let us imagine you have 40$ and want to enjoy some quality entertainment - you browse Steam looking for it and stumble upon two games that seems promising.
One is "Defiance F2P" and other - some recently released AAA shooter. First gives you decent combat mechanics, fairly innovative freedom in character developement, nice graphics, seamless world exploration and story to sink over 40 hours into. You want to play it with friends? Sure, no problem. You want to play against friends or complete strangers? No problem with that either. You want to be in a clan? Done. How much it's all going to cost? Nothing. If you get bored after a week or month or even two days - no harm done. You still have 40$ in your pocket to spend it on that other game if you feel like it.
Just think twice, though, because it's going to cost you at least 20$ to even download it, it's only 8 hours long with about half of that time spent on watching cutscenes and loading screens, there is no story whatsoever, combat mechanics haven't changed since 2001, character developement doesn't exist, and you need to dish out another 20$ on DLCs to customize your dude with hat, beard, and different uniform colour.
Forget about playing it with friends either - unless you manage to force them to spend 40$ for the game (including DLCs, so they are able to enter same "DLC only" maps as you do).
Tell me: what happens after a month of running around same 6 or 10 maps, shooting people in the face to see your nickname somewhere on the Score Board? You. Become. Bored.
Problem is - 40$ is gone.
Now, lets go back to "Defiance" - assuming you are after so called "competitive PvP". You aim to have best gear, highest score, visit every place available and hit 5k EGO cap. After those 40 hours of gameplay it will be probably already clear to you if the game is worth investing 20$ to buy Season Pass and unlock all DLCs, or only 10$ to unlock more Keycode slots, or some fancy clothing, or whatever floats your boat.
The best part is: there will be still enough money left to buy some beers and invite your friends for an all night gaming session.
If such a whiny spoiled troll even have any, that is...
