    Thanks 3183beowulf for a calm and straight-forward answer.
    I still haven't heard back from support. I only have email as an option (haven't bought anything in awhile).

    The speed that they were able to fix this (once they knew the problem) for you and other users I've seen with the same issue gives me hope.

    Now I just hope emails for support aren't on the bottom of their lists: happy thoughts - happy thoughts

    I try to start the game a couple times a day hoping to be surprised.

    It's been a few days. I got a reply for support, requesting the expected download this, re-install that.
    When asked to start 'updating' .NET installs, video driver, firewall settings (all worked fine before this error) I'd had enough.

    Created another Glyph account, used that in my existing launcher and the game ran fine. Others have mentioned it and I'll verify it.
    There is nothing wrong with your computer/game install, something is wrong with the user account on their end.

    After telling support about this, they replied... 'glad to see you are no longer having an issue and are able to once again play normally'
    My last message was that this was for a free account, setup just to see if it was my system at fault. My paid account is still borked.

    I'm not bashing support, they have a hard job figuring out what's what. But some consolidation of issues WITH solutions would save them a ton of time.

    Same as a support writes just nonsense. Still did not help me solve the problem.
    Good support trionworlds! Im reach 5700+ level and now I must say "bye bye my character" ? Ok, Well I deleted the game.

You will need to make sure that your router has been properly configured for Defiance. The two things you will want to do to ensure this is to make sure that your router's firmware has been updated to the most recent version, and also make sure that the proper ports for playing Defiance have been opened for both incoming and outgoing network traffic.

    Firmware updates for routers are most often available from the router manufacturer's website. Below is a list of the most popular router manufacturers and the links to their support websites:

    Belkin: http://www.belkin.com/support/

    Cisco / Linksys: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/home/

    D-Link: http://www.dlink.com/support/

    2wire: http://support.2wire.com/

    You will need to follow the instructions in your router's documentation or on the manufacturer's support site to update the firmware.

    Once your router's firmware has been updated, you will also want to make sure that the proper ports for Defiance are opened to both incoming and outgoing network traffic. Defiance requires the below ports for all network traffic related to the game:

    The ports for RIFT are 6520-6550.

    You should be able to find instructions on how to open these ports in your router through the router's documentation.

    4. Allow the repair process to go through

    1. Click the Start button, then right click on ‘Computer’
    2. Select properties.
    3. Click on ‘Advanced System Settings’ on the left side of the window that pops up.
    4. Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab of the ‘System Properties’ window that pops up.
    5. Click on the ‘Environment Variables’ button.
    6. Under the ‘User variables for’ section change the TEMP and TMP variables to:
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
    7. If the variables don’t exist then add them
    Variable Name : TEMP
    Variable Value: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
    Variable Name : TMP
    Variable Value: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
    8. Click ‘OK’ to accept the changes.
    9. Reboot Windows.
    10. Attempt to connect to the game again.

    First you’ll want to make sure that the proper ports for Defiance are opened to both incoming and outgoing network traffic. Defiance requires TCP ports 80, 443, 50000, 6540, and UDP 40000-45000 for all network traffic related to the game. You should be able to find instructions on how to open these ports in your router, through the router's documentation.

    Defiance ports to open:

    •TCP 80
    •TCP 443
    •TCP 50000
    •TCP 65000
    •UDP 40000-41000

    Once your router's ports are set up for Defiance, you’ll want to get the most recent Firmware updates from the manufacturer's website. Below is a list of the most popular router manufacturers and the links to their support websites:

    Need to update test to talk about where in glyph to change region and patch.txt file is no longer there

    First we'll need to verify that you are trying to access the correct region. To verify your region, please use the following instructions:
    1) Open your Glyph game client
    2) Select the correct region in the top right hand corner of glyph

    If your game client is already set to the proper region, please delete a text file named 'DefianceStartup.txt'. This file is located at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Glyph\Games\Defiance\Live

    Please make sure to delete the 'DefianceStartup.txt' text file and not the actual patching executable, with the same name. Once the text file has been deleted, please try to re-open your Glyph client and log into Defiance.

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting us regarding Defiance. It appears that your issue may be caused by background items or services interfering with the normal operations of the game. You may need to disable all non-essential startup items and services that are running in the background using your System Configuration utility.

    You can run this utility by following the steps below:

    Please Note - If you have any biometric software (Fingerprint readers) on your system, you will want to make sure not to disable it.

    Windows XP/Vista/7

    1. Press the 'Windows' + 'R' keys simultaneously.
    2. In the 'Run' window that appears, type 'msconfig' without the quotes and click 'OK.'
    3. In your resulting 'System Configuration' window, click on the 'Startup' tab.
    4. Disable all of the programs that are unnecessarily run on computer startup. (Please note that your security software may be among the listed startup programs, and that you can always disable or enable additional software using this list before or after computer restarts).
    5. Click on the 'Services' tab.
    6. Click on the checkbox next to 'Hide all Microsoft services.' This will remove all of the Microsoft services from the Services list and keep them from becoming disabled.
    7. Click on the 'Disable all' button.
    8. Click 'OK.'
    You will then be prompted to restart your computer, which you should do before proceeding.

    Windows 8

    1. Press the 'Windows' key and Type 'msconfig'
    2. In the results list click on msconfig app
    3. In your resulting 'System Configuration' window, click on the 'General' tab
    4. Choose 'Selective Startup' and uncheck 'Load startup items'
    5. Click on the 'Services' tab.

    8. Click 'OK.'

    The proper way to configure your firewall software for playing Defiance is to add all required applications to the Allowed Programs list. This can be done in almost all firewall software that is available, including the Windows Firewall, which comes as a standard component of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. The Windows Firewall can be accessed by entering the Control Panel. When switching the Control Panel view to Classic View, Windows Firewall should appear as its own icon within it.

    1. Open Windows Firewall
    2. Click on "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall"
    3. Click on "Allow another program..."
    4. Click on Browse
    5. Naviage to C:\Program Files (x86)\Glyph
    6. Select GlyphClient application and click Ok
    7. Select Add and this application will be added to the Allowed Programs list

    Repeated steps 3-7 for the below programs:

    archeage.exe - located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Glyph\Games\ArcheAge\Alpha\bin32
    hsupdate.exe - located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Glyph\Games\ArcheAge\Alpha\bin32\hshield
    If you are using third party firewall software such as Norton Internet Security or ZoneAlarm, you will need to add the same files listed above to the list of allowed programs in your third party firewall software as well. You should be able to find instructions on how to do this through the Support site for your security software.

    Be aware that the proper instructions for doing this may vary, depending on the version of the firewall software you are using. You will want to make sure that you are finding the instructions for your particular version of your firewall software.

    You will also need to properly configured your router for Defiance. If you are troubleshooting issues that may seem to be caused by your router, try removing your router and directly connecting to your modem as a troubleshooting step to see if this has any effect on the problem.

    ArcheAge requires TCP ports 80, 1237, 1239 and 1250 for all network traffic related to the game. You should be able to find instructions on how to open these ports in your router through the router's documentation.

    Thank you for contacting us regarding your Defiance patcher. I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulties with it, and I'll be happy to guide you through the following troubleshooting process and get this issue fixed.

    To begin, please try running your patcher as an administrator (right-click on your patcher's icon and select "Run as administrator"). This will launch your patcher, after which you can sign in and click "Update."

    If this does not work, please try running the Defiance self-patcher as an administrator. You can find the self-patcher in your Defiance folder under the file name "Patcher"

    Note: To run your Patcher file, please navigate to your C:\Users\USERNAME\APPDATA\LOCAL\DEFIANCE, right-click "Patcher" and select "Run as administrator." Alternatively, right-click your Defianceshortcut (the icon you use to launch the game), select "Open File Location" from the dropdown list or "Properties" location path, and launch your Patcher file in the resulting "Defiance" folder.

    If that doesn't work, I will need to gather information from your DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

    To run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and send us your machine’s DxDiag information:

    1. Press the “Windows” and “R” keys simultaneously to open your “Run” window.
    2. In your “Run” window, type “dxdiag” without the quotes and click “OK.” This will open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window.
    3. Click on the “Save All Information” button at the bottom of the window. This will save a text file named “DxDiag.txt” to a location of your choosing.
    4. Please submit the DxDiag.txt file to this ticket through https://support.trionworlds.com/app/account/overview (using your login credentials.)

    whilst a few people I've spoken to had this problem resolved in about 20 minutes once they got on to live chat, I had to wait about 3 days for it to be resolved. I guess it all depends who you speak to in live chat and if they have been brought up to speed on the problem, they may be slow but they will resolve it for you.

    Usedtokio, have you submitted a ticket yet or tried live support?
    Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

    If you don't mind, go ahead and restart your PC for me. Once it is restarted, follow the steps on this article to delete the Glyph folder from your AppData.

    Once that is done, try logging into Defiance again for me.

    What about people that login in-game using new account on the same system with no error but the old account still have this error?

    I believe this is an account-specific error, and once I know it is working for 3183beowulf, we can try those same steps for others to confirm it gets others squared away.
